Valeria Lukyanova is a living doll

The model who looks like a Barbie

Valeria Lukyanova claims to be a real-life Barbie doll.

Valeria Lukyanova has large breasts, tiny waist, huge eyes, plastic-like skin and long blonde hair. The 21-year old model claims on her blog to be the most famed woman on the Russian-language internet.

Valeria Lukyanova has reportedly undergone several surgeries to get her perfectly carved figure, and many believe Photoshop has been used to alter her photos. While actually achieving Barbie dimensions is impossible, Valeria Lukyanova comes as close as it gets.

If Barbie were a real woman, she would be 5’9”, and her measurements would be 39-18-33 with a size 3 shoe.

Galia Slayen wrote in the Huffington Post in April 2011 that, “Barbie would have a BMI of 16.24 and fit the weight criteria for anorexia. She likely would not menstruate. If Barbie was a real woman, she’d have to walk on all fours due to her proportions.”

Valeria Lukyanova’s features aren’t quite so drastic, but her carved waist and doll-like features still shock many people. Girls resembling dolls have been gathering larger and larger fan bases over the past several years, but there is growing concern that the Lolita style over-sexualizes young girls and invites predators.

Valeria Lukyanova has posted YouTube videos revealing how she gets her signature Barbie look. She uses opaque lenses and lots of makeup to achieve the glossy plastic look. Valeria Lukyanova posts pictures on her Facebook page and requests that fans “like” and share her photos.

Valeria Lukyanova is the most recent in the group of woman around the world who strive to look like Barbie. Sarah Burge, a British woman, has paid $800,000 in plastic surgery procedures to morph herself into a life-size Barbie doll. Dakota Rose and Venus Angelic have posted YouTube tutorials on the web to help other women get the doll-like look.

Venus Angelic is 15 years old and has gained popularity by giving tutorials on everything form makeup to dancing. Dakota Rose teaches viewers how to mimic her makeup and hair style to achieve a porcelain look and remains silent throughout her YouTube videos, allowing subtitles to provide instruction.

If Barbie is the most popular doll, Valeria Lukyanova stands to become the most popular living doll in the club.

$1 felony charge for Florida man who drank some pop

Man faces prison sentence for filling his water cup with Coke.

$1 felony for stealing a soda? A Naples, Florida man is facing felony charges for failing to pay for his Coke.

Mark Abaire, 52, is being charged with what is being called the $1 felony. Abaire allegedly walked out of an East Naples McDonald’s after filling a courtesy cup with soda instead of water and did not pay the $1 charge for the drink.

The manager approached Abaire and asked him to pay for the drink, but Abaire refused and proceeded to curse at the manager.

The manager told police she wanted to press charges for Abaire’s alleged theft, adding that Abaire was issued a trespass warning at that McDonald’s location in 2008.

Abaire was originally charged with a misdemeanor, but when it was discovered that he had prior theft convictions in 2003, 2005, and 2007, his charges were upgraded and resulted in the $1 felony.

Abaire now faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine for the $1 felony theft case.

Giuliana and Bill Rancic are expecting a baby

A gestational surrogate is carrying the couple’s baby, which is due later this summer.

Giuliana and Bill Rancic are expecting their first child together via a gestational surrogate.

Giuliana and Bill have tried to have a child before, but an unfortunate miscarriage led to fertility treatments. During a third round of in-vitro fertilization, Giuliana and Bill received the shocking news that she had breast cancer. Giuliana later underwent a double mastectomy and did not need chemotherapy.

Giuliana and Bill went on Today Monday morning to announce the impending arrival of a baby in their lives. They were discreet about specifics, but Baby Rancic is due at the end of summer. Giuliana and Bill are not going to reveal the sex of the baby, at least not yet, but they do know what they are expecting.

Gestational surrogacy means that the baby genetically belongs to Giuliana and Bill but is carried by another woman.

John Edwards trial underway

Twists and turns abound in this never-ending saga of corruption and deceit.

John Edwards went to trial Monday to take the defense against allegations that the former Democratic senator and presidential candidate diverted nearly $1 million in campaign funds to cover up an affair.

John Edwards is accused of using the campaign funds to conceal the fact that the woman he was having an affair with, Rielle Hunter, was pregnant with his daughter.

The story first broke in 2007 that John Edwards was reportedly having an affair, but it wasn’t until 2008 that he admitted to the affair and 2010 that he admitted Rielle Hunter’s daughter was his own.

Now that the trial is underway, more twists are likely to come about in the seemingly bottomless pit of cover-ups and misinformation. Already it has been determined that a key witness in the criminal case against John Edwards improperly contacted other witnesses to ask how they were going to testify.

That witness was Andrew Young, the former aid to John Edwards, who initially claimed to have fathered the child that turned out to be the daughter of John Edwards.

District Court Judge Catherine Eagles ruled that defense attorneys for John Edwards could mention the improper contact to jurors, but could not use the term “witness tampering” and could not mention the one-night stand Andrew Young had with one of the witnesses.

Andrew Young was the first witness to testify in the John Edwards trial Monday. John Edwards and his defense team will need to destroy Andrew Young’s credibility if they expect to win the trial.

John Edwards faces six criminal counts of campaign finance violations for allegedly accepting, and failing to report, campaign donations in excess of the $2,300 limit for individual contributions. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison and $1.5 million in fines.

John Edwards and his team allege that the diverted funds were actually tapped by Andrew Young and his wife to pay for a $1.5 million house they finished in 2008.

Marco Rubio lures Latinos back to the Republican Party

He can stand behind Romney, but is this first-term senator veep material?

Marco Rubio, the Florida senator and possible vice presidential pick, appealed to Latinos on Mitt Romney’s behalf this week.

Marco Rubio took the stage with Mitt Romney in an attempt to lure Latino voters back to the Republican Party. The appearance of Marco Rubio came during Mitt Romney’s shift from deep conservatism toward a more central platform.

Mitt Romney has been combating illegal immigration and vowing to veto the DREAM Act for months, an act that President Obama has stood behind throughout his presidency. The DREAM Act would allow citizenship for certain students who joined the military or attended university.

Marco Rubio, the Cuban-American conservative, has been working on an alternative to the DREAM Act. It has been speculated that his proposal would not guarantee to put those students on the fast track to citizenship, but would allow certain young people to pursue higher education or the military without fear of being deported.

Mitt Romney has said he is not yet ready to sign on the proposal Marco Rubio is writing.

“I’m taking a look at his proposal,” Mitt Romney said, “It has many features to commend it, but it’s something that we’re studying.”

It is unclear whether Marco Rubio will be chosen for the VP spot. Many have debated whether a first-term senator is qualified for the position, and Marco Rubio himself has confused speculators by first saying Mitt Romney will not pick him, to saying he would turn down an offer, to letting slip the comment, “if I do a good job as vice president.”

On State of the Union, Marco Rubio was prodded about whether or not he would accept a vice presidential offer. “I’m not going to discuss it anymore,” Marco Rubio said, “Now there’s a real process in place and I want to be respectful of the process [Romney’s] working on.”

Dirty Dancing hotel fire destroys a piece of cinema history

The place that inspired the hotel for the movie went up in flames this week.

A Dirty Dancing hotel fire has smoldered future opportunities to have The Time of My Life.

The Catskills resort where Frances “Baby” Houseman’s family spent their summer vacation burned down over the weekend in what is forlornly being called the Dirty Dancing hotel fire.

The blaze consumed nearly the entire condominium complex, formerly the Brown’s Hotel. In the film it was Kellerman’s resort, and it was the setting for one of cinema’s greatest love stories. The hotel had been standing since 1944, and while it was a popular performance spot for comedians like Jerry Lewis, it isn’t the only Dirty Dancing hotel.

In fact, the Dirty Dancing hotel fire only destroyed the symbol of inspiration for the film. Most of the movie was filmed at either Mountain Lake, in Virginia, where the outdoor and cabin scenes took place, or at Lake Lure in North Carolina.

The Mountain Lake location hosts several Dirty Dancing weekends throughout the year, and a Dirty Dancing remake may spark renewed interest in the location where the majority of the movie was filmed.

Still, the Dirty Dancing hotel fire is one of those devastating events that take a piece of film history from the world.

Reports have not indicated that anyone was injured in the Dirty Dancing hotel fire, but many residents lost their homes and everything they owned, and are taking shelter at Sullivan County Community College.

Doug Hutchison, 51, is counting down the days until his wife turns 18

The couple launched a YouTube show to countdown the days til her birthday

Doug Hutchison, age 51, is counting down the days until his teenage bride finally turns 18.

The rest of the country is right there with Doug Hutchison. It will be a welcome relief when Courtney Stodden turns 18 because maybe then reading her tweets won’t feel like committing a felony. Not to mention her provocative pictures in sky-high clear platform heels—yes, completely see-through—that make it impossible to believe she’s only 17.

And because this couple doesn’t do anything traditionally, Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison have begun the teen wife’s birthday celebration a whopping 100+ days in advance. Despite the fact that their reality show plans fell through, Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison have taken matters into their own hands and developed a YouTube show called Courtney’s Countdown, to countdown the days until she turns 18.

In the first video, cleverly titled My Foot Hurts, poor Courtney Stodden has a pain in her foot. Despite the pain, Courtney Stodden doesn’t ditch the Lucite. She hobbles around telling anyone who will listen that her foot hurts. She takes a short break to talk to her mom about what she wants to wear for an upcoming photo shoot, “a really tight, tiny dress, like always,” of course.

Doug Hutchison offers some valuable advice, suggesting that maybe it’s the shoes that are causing her pain. The young model insists that she injured herself during a recent “Easter-themed” photo shoot, in which she dressed up like a wannabe Playboy bunny.

If you were one of the fans waiting with bated breath for the Doug Hutchison and Courtney Stodden reality show to air, perhaps Courtney’s Countdown will help heal your wounded heart.

Vatican nun crackdown targets U.S. nuns

Those ‘radical’ feminists are causing a stir

A Vatican nun crackdown is singling out those freewheeling American nuns who just aren’t severe enough on certain “radical feminist themes” that don’t mesh well with the Catholic faith.

The full-scale overhaul, which is being called the Vatican nun crackdown, is going after the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the largest umbrella group for nuns in the United States. The Vatican has accused the group of taking positions that undermine the Roman Catholic Church’s stance on priesthood and homosexuality. Furthermore, “radical feminist themes” are responsible for the Vatican nun crackdown.

Yes, radical feminism has taken over the nuns. Or at least, that’s what the Vatican believes. They claim the LCWR has challenged positions taken by the Bishops, “who are the Church’s authentic teachers of faith and morals.”

The Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith will oversee the process of the Vatican nun crackdown and will keep a close watch on overhauling LCWR’s governing body. The LCWR was stunned by the conclusions the Vatican came to during their assessment, stating, “The leadership of LCWR has the custom of meeting annually with the staff of CDF in Rome and the conference follows canonically-approved statutes.”

The Vatican’s investigation noted that, “some commentaries on ‘patriarchy’ distort the way in which Jesus has structured sacramental life in the church,” and that the group has been, “silent on the right to life from conception to natural death, a question that is part of the lively public debate about abortion and euthanasia in the United States.”

Holocaust Remembrance Day honors millions killed by Nazis

Ceremonies around the world commemorate the terrible genocide

Holocaust Remembrance Day is being celebrated today around the globe.

In Poldand, an estimated 10,000 youth from Israel, the United States, and other countries march between Auschwitz and Birkenau in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The event, known as the March of the Living, takes place every year on Holocaust Remembrance Day. The two-mile march takes participants from Auschwitz to Birkenau, two areas in Oswiecim, Poland, where Germans operated a huge death camp during WWII.

In Jerusalem, Israelis commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day by travelling to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial Thursday, where a ceremony called Every Person Has a Name is held.

Sirens sounded for two minutes Thursday and traffic stopped in Israel. Drivers stepped out of their vehicles to remember the 6 million Jews that were killed.

Holocaust survivors and soldiers who were there to liberate them during the final days of WWII were present at many of the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremonies today.

Levon Helm is in 'final stages of his battle with cancer'

His friends and family are remembering his life as he nears the end

Levon Helm, the 71 year-old drummer-singer of The Band, is in the final stages of his battle with cancer.

Levon Helm was diagnosed with throat cancer more than 10 years ago. Although he made a recovery, his health recently declined. Levo Helm postponed several concerts in the past month, but according to an April 6 statement, the postponements were due to a slipped disk in his back.

Levon Helm told CNN in 2010 that he had struggled after the original diagnosis to pay all of his bills. “You got to pick one,” he said, “pay your medical bills or pay the mortgage. Most people can’t do both, and I’m not different.”

The throat cancer affected his voice, but when Levon Helm returned to the stage his home became the venue for the Midnight Rambles, a weekly concert series based on the southern medicine shows of his youth. Levon Helm invited people into “The Barn” which is the Grammy winning studio attached to his home. Levon Helm would play for about four hours with notable musicians and entertainers such as Elvis Costello, Steely Dan, Norah Jones, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals just to name a few.

Levon Helm’s wife and daughter posted the announcement about his failing health on the main page of his fan site. “Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey,” they wrote.

Levon Helm is known for his soulful voice and country accent, a blend that is easily recognized when a song by The Band begins to play.
