Theraflu: Kanye's cold remedy rap

Professes his love for Kim K

The often outspoken Kanye West is at it again. In true Kanye West, the music star professed his love to Kim Kardashian in his new song Theraflu.

Named for the over the counter cough remedy, West raps on Theraflu telling fans that he fell in love with the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star at about the same time she started dating her ex-husband Kris Humphries. That one guy who she divorced and threw to the media dogs after 72 days of marriage.

Kanye even refers to his rap pal Jay-Z who has stake in the New Jersey Nets, Kris Humphries basketball team, rapping the verse, “And I’ll admit, I fell in love with Kim, ’round the same time she had fell in love with him, well, that’s cool, baby girl, do ya thing, lucky I ain’t have Jay drop him from the team,”

He continues his trademarked egotistical charade with more verses like, “tell PETA my mink is dragging on the floor,” and “six thousand-dollar pair of shoes, I made it to the Paris news.”

The rapper even refers to his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose’s recent engagement to rap star Whiz Khalifa. Kanye raps, “I got respect for Whiz.”

There was some confusion on if the song was for the Kanye record or the D.J. Khaled record, but after Ye’ released the cover via twitter, all signs point to Kanye. The image depicts a topless woman whose head has been replaced with a bottle of Theraflu.

“He’s in a better place”

The creator of the Marshall amplifier, Jim Marshall, died at the age of 88.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved founder and leader for the past 50 years, Jim Marshall,” reads a statement on Marshall Amplification’s website. “While mourning the Guv’nor though, we also salute a legendary man who led a full and truly remarkable life.”

Jim Marshall died in a hospice in London, reported his family to the Associated Press. According to his son Terry Marshall, his father had cancer and suffered numerous strokes.

“My wife and I were with him when he passed away,” Terry Marshall told the Associated Press. “He got cancer toward the end of last year, and had surgery for that, and it came back. He was in a terrible state the last five or six weeks. He’s in a much better place now.”

The Marshall Amp debuted in 1960 and was used by performers Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page.

“Sad to hear we have lost dear friend & innovator Jim Marshall,” wrote Peter Frampton on his Twitter page. “Condolences to Paul & Marshall fam. One of a kind & I will miss him. RIP Jim.”

“R.I.P. Jim Marshall,” tweeted Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx. “You were responsible for some of the greatest audio moments in music’s history and 50% of all our hearing loss …”

Jim Marshall is survived by his children, stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Salmonella Outbreak Sickens Over 90 People

Unknown source

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is currently investigating a Salmonella outbreak that sickened 93 people in 19 different states.

“Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C. have reported cases linked to this outbreak,” CNN reported.

The CDC reports that 10 people have been hospitalized since the first report of the outbreak on January 28. The most recent report of Salmonella came as late as last Monday, and fortunately throughout all this time, no deaths have occurred. The strain of unusual bacteria that sickened all those people is known as Salmonella Bareilly.

“CDC is collaborating with public health officials in several states and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to investigate a multi-state outbreak of salmonella serotype Bareilly infections,” CDC spokeswoman Lola Russell said in a statement.

The CDC reported they were unsure what type of food is causing the Salmonella outbreak, but there have been reports that people sickened by the outbreak were reported to have eaten sushi and similar type foods shortly before becoming infected.

The symptoms linked to Salmonella poisoning are: diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever 12 to 72 hours after infection, according to the CDC. Most individuals recover after four to seven days without treatment, but in rare cases, serious illness requiring hospitalization develop.

CDC officials are doing what they can to link the cause of the Salmonella outbreak, and they released a statement assuring the public, “if a specific food source is identified for this outbreak, public health officials will alert the public and take further steps to prevent additional illnesses.”

Nicholas Cage ponies up $6.25 million for back taxes

Owned an island, a 28-room castle, and married three times

Nicholas Cage recently paid $6.25 million he owed in back taxes but still has more to pay the IRS. The Ghost Rider star was covering some of the back taxes he owed in 2007. It is estimated that he still owes $7 million more.

Nicholas Cage told People magazine in 2010 that he owed $14 million in back taxes. “Over the course of my career I have paid at least $70 million in taxes,” he told People. “However, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009. All taxes will be paid including any to-be-determined state taxes.”

The recent payment comes from the money Cage received for his role in the Ghost Rider sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The film surprisingly received terrible reviews; on RottenTomatoes, the film received an 18 percent rating from 96 reviews and has this blurb to go with it, “With a weak script, uneven CG work and a Nic Cage peformance so predictably loony its no longer amusing, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance aims to be trashy fun but ends up as plain trash.”

But, the film paid the bills for Nicholas Cage who has had four of his homes foreclosed on, one of which was a 28-room castle in Germany. The lavish movie star even owned an island at one point.

Cage recently settled out with his ex-wife for $13 million. She was one of three wives for Cage who ranked as number six on Forbes list of Most Overpaid Actors.

Painkiller Addiction Increases in the United States

See the numbers

The Associated Press released a recent analysis showing the rise in sales of the nation’s most popular prescription painkillers. The numbers are staggering and some areas have increased sixteen fold since the year 2000.

The Drug Enforcement Administration figures also coincide with the study, showing a drastic increase in the distribution of oxycodone, the key ingredient in OxyContin, Percocet and Percodan.

The United States accounts for 82 percent of the world consumption of oxycodone with the third largest population in the world. Along with the increase in the drug’s distribution, the epidemic that is currently ensuing has caused an increase in death from overdose amongst many other problems like burglarizing pharmacies.

The Associated Press reported, “Nationwide, pharmacies received and ultimately dispensed the equivalent of 69 tons of pure oxycodone and 42 tons of pure hydrocodone in 2010, the last year for which statistics are available. That’s enough to give 40 5-mg Percocets and 24 5-mg Vicodins to every person in the United States.”

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention places these pills in the Opioids category. Opioids “caused 14,800 overdose deaths in 2008 alone,” reports the Associated Press. “And the death toll is rising.”

The increase is partially due to the baby boomer population aging with pain issues but in reality it is due to the willingness of doctors giving out prescriptions according to Gregory Bunt, the medical director at New York’s Daytop Village. The sales have increased because patients have become dependant on the substance and when a prescription runs out, the addicts begin “doctor shopping,” according to Bunt.

The pills are meant to be taken orally but some abusers crush the pills and either snort, smoke or inject them.

Burger King Mary J Blige Ad Controversy

See the commercial below:

In what is the most ambitious marketing initiative in all of Burger King’s 58 year history, the fast food chain is undergoing a massive overhaul, offering garden salads, snack wraps and fruit smoothies. The king of burgers was never really the king of burgers, trailing McDonalds in annual sales, and was recently passed by Wendy’s for the number two spot in the burger race. BK decided to revamp their image and only needed a celebrity to peddle the new fast food items, but the new ad has Mary J. Blige upset.

Singing a parody to the tune of “Don’t Mind” from her latest album, Mary J. Blige sings lyrics promoting the new Burger King changes in the ad, “crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing, wrapped up in a tasty flour tortilla.”

It turns out the commercial has been widely criticized on the web for playing into stereotypes and furthermore, Mary J. Blige has come forth saying the ad was never finished even though it was aired. In a statement to the Associated Press, Mary J. Blige said, “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip, so I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw to go out.”

Burger King was forced to pull the ad after viewers began to complain. The chain released a statement about the ad saying it was “released prematurely before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained.” They also issued an apology to Blige, “we would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final. We know how important Mary J. is to her fans, and we are currently in the process of finalizing the commercial. We hope to have the final ad on the air soon.”

Blake Griffin Dunk Video: two times at Pau Gasol's expense

If you know whats good for you, you’ll watch the video below

In what has become a heated rivalry out in Los Angeles, Blake Griffin adds to the buzz with a couple dunks last night that sent the seven foot Pau Gasol stumbling to the ground…twice.

The first dunk came early in the first quarter, just a minute and a half into the game. Randy Foye missed a 3-pointer from the corner and set his teammate up perfectly for a tip slam. The seven foot Pau Gasol was going up for what he thought was a routine rebound, when Blake Griffin leaped over top of Gasol’s back The thundering dunk that preceded sent the seven foot Gasol flying out of bounds and falling to the ground.

The second dunk, and possibly the best dunk of the year, also came at the expense of Pau Gasol in the third quarter. Blake Griffin was fed by Caron Butler with a bounce pass and the seven foot Pau Gasol shifted over trying to do something to stop the high flying jammer, bad move. The events that took place can be seen below, only because words can’t describe how, again, the seven foot Pau Gasol was sent to the ground. Oh, but the reaction by Gasol’s teammate, Andrew Bynum says everything and the narrator of the video kindly points it out, “damn.”

Here was the seven footers reaction to getting dunked on, “You don’t really see what happened,” Gasol said. “It was quick, a hit-and-run kind of thing, right? The ball went in, I was on my ass, I woke up, I stood up and told the referee I had a f—ing forearm on my face, on my throat, and that’s something that needs to be looked at. But it happened too quick. I didn’t realize.”

Publix Plane Crash: Video of Damage

Leaving 5 injured

A small experimental plane crashed into the Publix supermarket on Wednsedy in Delan, Florida. The Publix plane crash injured five people and sent shoppers running out of the complex.

Many customers shopping at the time called 911 and the calls were released on Tuesday to the public, “Publix is on fire!” a woman from inside the stored said. “The store is on fire! OK. We got to go.”

Police released a statement about the Publix plane crash, “A twin-engine experiment aircraft has crashed into the roof of the Publix supermarket,” reported DeLand Police Sgt. Chris Estes to The Associated Press by telephone. “Publix is the only structure to suffer any damage.”

Three shoppers inside the store sustained injuries and the only two passengers on the plane were hospitalized in Orlando with severe burns. A report added that a manager in the meat department put out fires on some shoppers clothes and rushed them out of the supermarket.

The plane was amateur-built only seating four people, but only two were present during the crash. The plane did not have a black box but investigators are hoping they will be able to use the GPS system in the plane to learn more about what happened, what went wrong and where the plane was heading.

Most of the plane was ruined in the crash and the worst injuries so far are third degree burns.

Shabazz Muhammad: to go to Kentucky basketball program?

See highlight reel below

Shabazz Muhammad is known as the nation’s top recruit for college basketball and now has the decision of where he is going to take his talents.

Shabazz’s latest feat that cemented him as the nation’s best came at the McDonald’s All American game where he scored a game-high 21 points as he led the West coast team to a 106-102 victory. After the game he commented, “When you come to any event you want to be known as the best player.” He did just that.

With the Kentucky Wildcats winning the NCAA championship Monday night, much of Tuesday’s speculation puts forth that the Wildcats are a candidate for Shabazz Muhammad. Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress and Willie Cauley are three of the nation’s top fifty high school basketball players and are all committed to the Kentucky. If Shabazz Muhammad were to join those three, it would see the Wildcats are a shoo-in for back-to-back national titles.

Shabazz Muhammad will make his decision by April 10 and along with Kentucky, Duke and UCLA are also front runners for the prospect. He could place himself amongst the other star names out of Kentucky and Duke, or he could try and lead a team like UCLA on his own, truly displaying his own talents. But the UCLA Bruins have not advanced to the Sweet 16 since their Final Four visit in 2008. The Bruins missed the NCAA tournament altogether this last postseason. The decision is a hard one for the young high school phenom.
