TMZ reported the three time Grammy-nominee singer El DeBarge was arrested outside Los Angeles on Monday on a charge of suspicion of drug possession with intent to sell.
El DeBarge was picked up by the police when officers believed they observed El DeBarge participating in a drug deal. His bail is set at $30,000, and he is due back in court in early April.
This is not the first time the singer of hits like “Rhythm of the Night” and “Who’s Johnny” has been taken down for drug possession. This is his third time being arrested for drug possession since 2001. He was even sentenced to 2 years in prison after he violated parole when police found crack and drug paraphernalia on his person.
El DeBarge dropped out of a national tour over a year ago to check himself into rehab. The R&B singer/songwriter talked about his struggles with addiction, “Drugs are a very strong, outside aggression,” he said. “It attacks leadership, and it just attacks things and it gives you a challenge that you really don’t want to have. But, you have to be strong and we all have the strength.”
The Detroit native, El DeBarge has had a tumultuous life. His mother published a book telling of a household full of domestic abuse and child abuse, and it would seem El is still suffering the consequences. His brother is currently in jail for assault with a deadly weapon and drug related charges. El DeBarge has fathered 11 children.
Robert De Niro hosted a fundraiser for President Barack Obama in New York last night and stirred up a little controversy by telling a joke. He said, “Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white First Lady?”
Even Michelle Obama was in attendance during the joke. Good ol’ Newt Gingrich heard about it and was utterly offended, telling President Obama to apologize for the Robert De Niro joke. You would think by now Newt would have learned how to take a joke about his wife/wives- but guess not. Gingrich responded saying, “What De Niro said last night was inexcusable, and the president should apologize for him. It was at an Obama fundraiser… if people on the left want to talk about radio talk show hosts, then everybody in the country ought to hold the president accountable when somebody at his event says something as utterly, totally unacceptable as Robert De Niro said last night.”
Gingrich is comparing Rush Limbaugh’s comments about Sandra Fluke from earlier this week, calling her “a slut,” but it’s not like he apologized for Limbaugh’s comments, so why should Obama? Rush Limbaugh has since lost many sponsors for his comment, but it is highly doubtful the Robert De Niro joke will create a comparable buzz in the media.
Newt got his wish though, sort of, when Olivia Alair, the press secretary for Michelle Obama, issued a statement about the Robert De Niro joke saying, “We believe the joke was inappropriate.” There Newt, ya happy?
Vice President Joe Biden commended President Barack Obama’s decision to raid the Abbottabad compound sheltering the United State’s enemy Osama Bin Laden, and even called it “audacious,” here are his words, “You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48 percent probability that he was there,” 500 years said Joe.
POLITICO has done a publication since the audacious comments that fire back at Biden. They created a list of ten military plans that were equally or more audacious than Obama’s plan to kill Osama Bin Laden. Amongst the top five are, D-day, Napolean’s invasion of Russia, the Entebbe raid, the Spanish Armada, and the landing at Inchon- all small potatoes to Joe Biden.
What President Barack Obama underwent during the Bin Laden raid makes Operation Eiche- the successful rescue of Mussolini, look like a little kid getting a cookie from the cookie jar.
Biden later said, “Do any one of you have a doubt that if that raid failed that this guy would be a one-term president?” Could one assume that President Barack Obama killed Bin Laden for the revenge of 9/11, in order to get rid of the world’s most dangerous terrorist, or to simply get re-elected? No, no, of course not, the reason Barack Obama carried out Operation Neptune Spear was for the sole reason to get the Vice President to use the words audacious in describing himself, Barack Obama.

A powerful and long-lasting earthquake shook the buildings of Mexico City this Tuesday. According to Mexico’s national seismological agency, the Mexico earthquake was registered at a 7.6 on the Richter scale and was followed soon after with a 4.8 tremor.
The United States Geological Survey was unaware of the epicenter of the temblor but the National Seismology Agency of Mexico reported that the epicenter was southwest of Guerrero and said to be 11 miles underground.
Witnesses reported of the shock and power of the Mexico earthquake to The San Francisco Chronicle, Rosa Maria Lopez Velazquez, “I have problems with pressure, I felt I was going to faint.” Another, Irma Ortiz, said “It was very strong, but we didn’t see anything fall,” and went on to say the telephones in the area were not working and the quake had caused the building to sway side-to-side.
The Mexico City Mayor, Marcelo Ebrard wrote on his Twitter page that “strategic services” like the water system were not experiencing any problems.
Hundreds of people were evacuated from their office buildings due to the Mexico earthquake and many claimed that they had never felt such a powerful shaking. Fearing for their lives the citizens decided to take to the streets.
The Mexico City airport was closed for a short time as well, but following the aftershock and no damage, airport services returned to their usual operations.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are mutant ninja turtles as you can tell by the title, not Teenage Mutant Ninja Alien Turtles. Michael Bay ninja turtles are aliens though. Yes, I said it, aliens. The Transformers director changed a couple important details to the anthropomorphic turtle franchise, and it has fans ticked off.
The actor, Robbie Rist, who did the voice of Michelangelo in the original ninja turtle’s film, told TMZ he was furious about the Michael Bay ninja turtles. “You probably don’t know me but I did some voice work on the first set of movies that you are starting to talk about sodomizing.” Rist added, “I know believing in mutated talking turtles is kinda silly to begin with but am I supposed to be led to believe there are ninjas from another planet? The rape of our childhood memories continues …”
The entire backlash comes from a recent media event where Michael Bay commented on his upcoming changes to the ninja turtles, “These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable,” Bay said.
Rist did have a little reluctance after his comments later telling TMZ that, “Everything I have said here could be off base and wrong … He has made way more money at this than I have.”
Michael Bay wrote on his website, “Fans need to take a breath, and chill.” He added, “They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of ‘Ninja Turtles’ to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”
Spring has sprung and early too. The first day of spring is here and Space.com reports that it arrived the earliest since 1896. This is when the tilt of the earth’s axis is neither away from nor towards the sun and the amount of sun and darkness is almost exactly equal throughout the day. The fine folk’s at Google have a homepage doodle dedicated to the flora and fauna of the early arrival of the first day of spring.
The marking of the first day of spring has been succeeded by national temperatures reaching impressive highs, Boston posted a high of 74 degrees, that is 28 degrees above the average for the first day of spring and Chicago is undergoing a small heat wave with five days in a row of over 80 degrees.
These high temperatures also come with sinister warnings of a potential for violent weather, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. With the first day of spring here, the next 24 hours are under an elevated risk of tornados, spanning from the Texas Gulf to northwestern North Dakota.
The common term of “April showers bring May flowers” was toyed with by National Weather Service forecasters who jokingly said on a broadcast, “February showers bring March flowers.” Those same forecasters are expecting rain to cool down the country at the end of the week in what they call “the dog days of March,” but they continued, “Our historic and unprecedented stretch of record-breaking temperatures generally looks to continue.”
‘What, are you following me for,’ would be his last recorded words
The Florida community rallied support on Monday for Trayvon Martin and his family outside the Seminole County Courthouse.
The 17-year-old sparked a national outrage, in what has come to be known as the Trayvon Martin 911 call, when he told a friend he was being followed. “He said this man was watching him, so he put his hoodie on. He said he lost the man,” a female friend of Trayvon Martin told ABC. “I asked Trayvon to run, and he said he was going to walk fast. I told him to run, but he said he was not going to run.”
George Zimmerman, the man that promopted Martin to call, shot and killed the 17-year-old boy.
More than 430,000 people, including director Spike Lee and musician Wyclef Jean, signed an online petition on Change.org, calling for the arrest of the shooter, George Zimmerman, who claims to this day he was acting in self defense.
The FBI announced Monday that they will open an investigation. The Treyvon Martin 911 call was confirmed by ABC, and he did in fact speak with a female friend before being killed. “Trayvon said, ‘What, are you following me for,’ and the man said, ‘What are you doing here.’ Next thing I hear is somebody pushing, and somebody pushed Trayvon because the head set just fell. I called him again and he didn’t answer the phone.” Those would be the last words recorded by the Treyvan Martin 911 call.
The Orlando Sentinel reported the shooter, Zimmerman, called police 46 times in the months leading up the Trayvon Martin shooting. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office released six of the calls made by Zimmerman- who reported in four of those calls of “suspicious persons” who were described as black males around the area Trayvon was killed.
Bethenny Frankel had a wardrobe malfunction while visiting the Anderson show last week. Frankel went on the show to promote her newest season of Bethenny EverAfter but had no idea how much press she was about to get.
Bethenny Frankel jumped to the floor in a pushup position, only to have her dress flip over on her and expose her underwear. For a moment she and Anderson Cooper were shocked and silent, but not for long. “Wow,” said Cooper. “How’d it look,” Bethenny Freankel asked to the audience, “Pink, you saw the Pink?
The next day Bethenny Frankel commented to iVilliage, “At least I had underwear that were nice.” The 41-year-old did appear embarrassed but seemed to play the wardrobe malfunction off rather well, considering the circumstance that she just mooned millions of people.
Bethenny Frankel in the past posed nude for the animal rights group PETA and was placed on a large billboard in Times Square as part of a PETA promotion to stop the wearing of animal fur.
It would seem that the segment from the Anderson show has also become “wildly” popular. See for yourself:
What creative writer hasn’t used a little exaggeration and embellishment to get his point across? Just ask Mike Daisey.
Last week the radio show This American Life retracted a segment on the show of Mike Daisey’s The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs. The follow up broadcast of the show, hosted by Ira Glass, told of aspects of Mike Daisey’s recounts of his trip to Shenzhen, China as being fabricated.
The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, according to the public theatre website,
“Mike Daisey turns his razor-sharp wit to America’s most mysterious technology icon in this hilarious and harrowing tale of pride, beauty, lust, and industrial design. He illuminates how the former CEO of Apple and his obsessions shape our lives, while sharing stories of his own travels to China to investigate the factories where millions toil to make iPhones and iPods. Daisey’s dangerous journey shines a light on our love affair with our devices and the human cost of creating them.”
Even Apple audits and other journalist have confirmed the working conditions of Apple factories to have had serious injuries and underage workers, but it seems Daisey crossed a line. He recounted of interviews that never happened and incidents that did not occur. Now, Mike Daisey is being smeared on the media as a phony.
“If people want to use me as an excuse to return to denialism about the state of our manufacturing, about the shape of our world, they are doing that to themselves,” Daisey stated. He admits to embellishing the story and apologized for it but still believes he stands for truth, “I told Ira that story should always be subordinate to the truth, and I still believe that. Sometimes I fall short of that goal, but I will never stop trying to achieve it.”
