“Aaaaaaaw-weeeeeeeeeeeeeee” says the angry bird as it flys through the air, hunting down those blasted green pigs. Or, is that you making that sound because you just found out that today is the day so many have been waiting for, the new release from one of the greatest application franchises of all time- Angry Birds Space. Yea, that’s right Space.
Along with the debut of the highly anticipated game that NASA is endorsing, Wal-Mart is selling bunches of Angry Bird merchandise, MTV is using the game to help fight online bullying and, to top it off, Seattle is turning their 300-foot space needle into a giant sling shot.
So many of you are wondering, sure Angry Birds Space could be just as addictive as all the other titles but what makes it different? All the other games have been rather similar. But wait till you hear this, the game has changes. Along with judging the normal trajectory of your bird slingshot, now you are forced to factor in the gravitational pull of the planet you are on if you want to pop those wretched pigs.
“Once again, the physics in Angry Birds Space is phenomenal, giving players a great sense of control,” USA Today said about the new game. “Why take on a group of pigs head on when a well-placed trick shot can send a bird orbiting around a planet to strike a weak point?”
Kotaku.com says Angry Birds Space is a “game changer” compared to the other versions, “If Angry Birds … made you feel smart or lucky before, Angry Birds Space will make you feel like a physics genius and a lotto winner.” Now that’s funny.
Rihanna has been in the news lately sporting a new tattoo and posing as a hardcore chick on a poster for the upcoming movie, Battleship. And, it seems that Rihanna has competition in the tough girl stakes, in the form of her close friend, Katy Perry. Perry’s latest music video, Part of Me, was released yesterday and shows the once dolled up, blue haired pop star in marine boot camp, knee deep in mud.
Entertainment Weekly’s Music Mix said, “It’s less G.I. Jane and more In the Army Now, but Katy Perry’s new pop-military video for Part of Me is still an intense ride.”
Speculation surrounding the video ponders on whether Katy’s new look is in response to her recent split with movie star Russell Brand. The Huffington Post reported that “Perry has denied the song is about Brand, stating she wrote the record more than two years ago. This means that the track could very well be about her other famous ex, Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy.” Who knows?
MTV asked Katy about rivalry between her and Rihanna but the eight time Grammy nominee played it off saying, “I don’t even think Rihanna knows that I have a service-based video,” she said. “I saw a little clip of her in the Battleship trailer — I’m very excited for that film, especially because there’s aliens in it now. It’s not, you know, Battleship, your move, bro,’ it’s like aliens. I love aliens.” Nonetheless, comparisons have been drawn between the two stars, and Katy Perry certainly seems to have embraced a new image in her latest video.
After 18 long seasons with a single franchise- the Atlanta Braves, and his seemingly ambidextrous hitting style, the third baseman Chipper Jones plans to retire at the end of the 2012 season.
“Never in my mid-20s would I have given myself a snowball’s chance to be in camp and have a job at 40 years old,” Jones told The Associated Press during the start of this years spring training. “But I like to think I’ve kept myself in pretty good shape over the years. The skills are still there to go out and get it done. I don’t know for how much longer, but we’re gonna ride it as long as we can.”
Chipper Jones was a seven time all-star who won the rookie-of-the-year award in 1995 and was named the National League MVP in 1999. It would appear, along with his switch hitting skill- the only switch hitter with more than 300 home runs and a career batting average over .300, and dedication to one franchise, that the 39-year-old is a shoo-in for the hall of fame. “No doubt,” Cox said about Chipper Jones going in the hall of fame. “A switch-hitter who has played on winners and done everything he’s done.”
Chipper Jones battled injuries throughout his career and even announced back in 2010 that he was planning on retiring, only to retract that statement later. He initially was placed as a left fielder but suffered a season ending knee injury that would move him to the third base position.
Chipper Jones led the Braves to their first World Series championship in 1995 and appeared in the series two more times in his career.
After further research, yes, Vincent Van Gogh is in fact dead. But with years of speculation, a painting has finally been clarified as an original Vincent Van Gogh. With help from an X-ray technique, a still depicting a bouquet of flowers, was authenticated, even after much doubt over the years.
The work is titled “Still Life With Meadow Flowers and Roses” has hung in the Kroeller-Muller museum in Otterlo since 1974. It was at first thought to be a Van Gogh but was discredited in 2003 by a BBC report.
During the art market boom in the 1980s and 90s, Vincent Van Gogh paintings were of the most expensive: “Sunflowers” for $39.9 million, “Irises” for $53.9 million, and “Portrait of Dr. Gachet” went for $82.5 million.
The New York Times reported that the Van Gogh painting was covering another painting of two wrestlers fighting and matches a description of an image Van Gogh described to his brother, Theo, in a letter and mentioned is still life as a work in progress.
“The wrestlers are not completely naked; they wear some sort of pants which is characteristic of the Antwerp Academy, which Van Gogh attended,” in 1885-86, said the museum’s spokeswoman, Sylvia Gentenaar. The brush strokes were also confirmed as being undeniably similar to the style of the Dutch painter.
Teio Meedendorp, a researcher at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam said “This painting was a complete match with all the research that has been done over the past 10 years.” He continued, “There was always the possibility of discovering other ‘unknown’ Van Gogh works in future. There are other paintings that haven’t been x-rayed.”
Justice officials are planning to meet today with the parents of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old boy who was shot and murdered by suspect George Zimmerman.
Police have recently released eight 911 calls made by Zimmerman who was a neighborhood watch volunteer. He told police on the first call the he was “following” Martin and that Trayvon Martin was running. The dispatcher went on to tell Zimmerman to stop his pursuit; he responded to the dispatcher, “This guy looks like he is up to no good. He is on drugs or something. He also said the teen had his hand in his waistband and was looking at homes as he walked. Zimmerman continued, “These a******s. They always get away.”
The release of the Trayvon Martin 911 call caused a nationwide uproar, and over 1 million people have gone to Change.org to sign a petition calling for the prosecution of George Zimmerman.
“George Zimmerman took Trayvon’s life for nothing,” Trayvon Martin’s father, Tracy Martin, said at a rally for his son. “Our son did not deserve to die. There’s nothing that we can say that will bring him back, but I’m here today to assure that justice is served and that no other parents have to go through this again.”
After receiving Zimmerman’s 911 call, the Police department received a flood of calls people describing two men in a scuffle. There was screaming said one unverified female witness. “I just heard a shot right behind my house,” said another male caller. “They’re wrestling right behind my porch. The guy is yelling, “Help!” I’m not going outside.”
The grand jury is expected to take up the case next month. Hear George Zimmermans 911 call below.

The future looks bright to researchers but not everyone is on board
A recent study found that heart attacks patients had higher concentrations of a specific type of cell that lines the arteries in their blood when compared to patients with good health.
This clue now has the potential in the future to alert doctors when a patient might be in danger of having heart attacks. Researchers found that endothelial cells begin to buildup in patients on the verge of heart attacks and believe this is a good indicator of cardiac arrest to come.
The study was published in the Science Translational Medicine journal. The tests showed on 50 patients who suffered heart attacks showed to have an average of between 12 and 51 endothelial cells per milliliter of blood, compared to the regular 2 to 5 endothelial cells per milliliter found in healthy people.
Researchers hope to be able to commercially spread the test within the next to years but some doctors still remain skeptical, “This is an interesting observation, but it fails to demonstrate that finding these cellular patterns in blood during stable, asymptomatic phases of heart disease actually will predict the future risk of a heart attack,” says Prediman K. Shah the director of the division of cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA. He continued, “That’s a fundamental flaw of the study. Maybe that will be their next study, but that’s going to be a hard study to do,” saying that a study would be hard to do requiring researchers to follow people with a potential for a heart attack rather than someone who has had one in the past.
What does this mean for the two men on trial for her kidnapping?
Authorities believe they found the body of Sherry Arnold, the Montana school teacher that has been missing for three months, in northwest North Dakota.
“While a positive identification has not been made at this time, it is believed the remains are those of Sherry Arnold,” said Debbie Dujanovic Bertram, a spokeswoman for the Salt Lake City Division of the FBI.
Two men, Michael Keith Spell, 22, and Lester Van Waters Jr, 47, from Parachute Colorado are suspected of kidnapping and killing Sherry Arnold. The two plead not guilty to one count each of aggravated kidnapping, that charge alone has the potential result in the death penalty. The two are being held on $2.5 million bail each.
Sherry Arnold was a math teacher at Sidney High School. She grew up on a ranch outside the city of 5,000. Sherry Arnold’s father, Ron Whited, met with authorities Wednesday and released a statement, “Whatever there is to say, the law enforcement and FBI have to say it.” The mayor of Sidney, Bret Smelser, also released a statement saying that if the body that was discovered is in fact Sherry Arnold, the town will have “the closure that we needed.
Sherry Arnold went missing on Jan. Hundreds of townspeople and volunteers went searching for the 43-year old but to no avail. “It’s been tough for the family and the community,” Smelser said. “Hopefully the family will have some final closure and be able to put the body to rest.”
Additional charges against Waters and Spell might be filed pending a positive ID of Sherry Arnold. The two men could now be facing federal charges, if the body Sherry Arnold was in fact transported over state lines.
After much wading the former Florida gov. backs the GOP front-runner
Finally Mitt Romney got the endorsement he has been patiently awaiting. Former governor of Florida Jeb Bush announced Wednesday that he was endorsing Mitt Romney’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
Coming a day after Mitt Romney swept the Illinois Primary, where he dominated Rick Santorum in the popular vote and delegates, Jeb Bush decided to be the most recent supporter of the former Massachusetts governor. “Now is the time for Republicans to unite behind Gov. Romney and take our message of fiscal conservatism and job creation to all voters this fall,” Jeb Bush said in a written statement. He also congratulated the other Republican candidates “for a hard-fought, thoughtful debate and primary season.”
Jeb Bush has taken a backseat for most of the primary and was even urged to run for president by many party members, seeing how torn Republicans were between the candidates early on. With his recent endorsement it would appear that Mitt Romney is line to receive the Republican nomination for president and the support of the big GOP donors. Out of the 1,144 delegates needed to win the candidacy, Romney has 563, Santorum has 263, Newt Gingrich has 135 and Ron Paul has 50, the Associated Press reports.
Jeb Bush personally contacted Romney late Wednesday telling him he was going to go ahead and endorse him for presidential candidacy. The endorsement did come as some what of a surprise for the Romney party but was, nonetheless, a sign of good things to come.
“He has long demonstrated an outstanding ability to bring people together,” Romney said in a statement. He added, “This is a key moment in the presidential contest and Jeb’s counsel and support will be critical in the coming months in my effort to defeat Barack Obama and turn around our country.”
After pleading no-contest, Hugh Hefner’s son Marston Hefner has been sentenced to a 52-week domestic violence program after he allegedly beat his Playboy Playmate girlfriend Claire Sinclair last month. The son of the magazine publisher and founder of the Playboy enterprises is in hot water and the judge even ordered him to stay away from Sinclair.
Marston Hefner spoke of his standards in women during a GQ interview back in 2008, “I’ve just been around really hot women my entire life, so the average high school girl won’t do it for me.” It seems Sinclair met his standards but that wasn’t everything he hoped.
Sinclair, 20, was named the 2011 “Playmate of the Year” and was shown with a bruise on her arm in a photo on the TMZ website. Hugh Hefner’s son, 21, and Sinclair were living together at the time of the incident in their Pasadena apartment. TMZ took the photo while Sinclair was gathering her belongings after being given a 5 day stay-away order.
Hugh Hefner’s son Marston reportedly kicked Sinclair and punched her in the stomach. . Sinclair said she wouldn’t press charges if Martson issued a public apology and submitted to psychiatric help. Police responded to the abuse from a worried call made by Sinclair’s family.
Upon sentencing Hugh Hefner’s son has since cancelled all photo shoots and upcoming appearances for Playboy magazine. Marston was also facing a charge of vandalism for supposedly wrecking Sinclair’s laptop but those charges were dropped.
The New York play-on-words media headlines will get even more absurd with Tim Tebow now playing for the New York Jets. The Linsanity to now Timsanity Tebowmania, forced Knicks star Jeremy Lin to comment on the Tim Tebow trade, “I’m just excited for him and to see what he does,” He said in Philadelphia. “We’ll see what happens next year.”
New York Jets fans are now forced to play favorites for their starting quarterback position, Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow? “Mark Sanchez is, has been and will be our starting quarterback,” general manager Mike Tannenbaum said late Wednesday night. Mark Sanchez did just recently extend his contact with the New York Jets and with that he does have some protection as the first string quarterback for the franchise. But, with the acquisition of Tim Tebow the New York Jets have placed extra pressure on their current quarterback. New York is a place where success is measured in performance and if Mark Sanchez has a bad streak or a couple picks here and there, the Tebow maniacs and soon to be Tebow maniacs will be coming out the wood work.
The humble Tim Tebow claims him and Sanchez have been friends for several years,
“My goal is to push Sanchez to get better, and to push myself to get better every day,” He said. “But I think we’ll have a great working relationship. We’ll have a great relationship off the field, and we’ve had that the last few years. He’s such a classy guy and handles himself so well, and I’ll be very honored to call him my teammate.”
