Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez pleads not guilty to murder charge, girlfriend charged wi

Aaron Hernandez’s girlfriend was charged with perjury in the murder of Odin Lloyd

Aaron Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder of Odin Lloyd’s back on June 17. Lloyd was found dead in an industrial park in North Attleborough, Mass., near Hernandez home.

As the investigation continues, Hernandez was believed to have been at the scene of the crime the night Lloyd was murdered but further evidence is still pending. In recent developments, Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, 24, was indicted for perjury.  She becomes the third person to be indicted for Lloyd’s murder.

Jenkins allegedly concealed information about her contact with Hernandez, carrying out requests given by Hernandez himself.

According to police investigations, records show an exchange of phone calls and messages between Jenkins and Hernandez within days of the murder. Hernandez asked Jenkins to remove firearms from their Massachusetts home and dispose of them. Surveillance cameras show Jenkins leaving her home with a black bag and later returning without the bag suspected to have been Hernandez’s firearms.

Jenkins’ uncle told investigators that they were handed cell phones and told to discard the weapons into the woods.

As the story develops, many of Jenkins’ and Hernandez’s family members have been charged with conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact, including Hernandez’s cousin, Tanya Singleton. Prosecutors stated she drove Ernest Wallace, an associate to Hernandez (charged with conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact), from Connecticut to Georgia and following her car breaking down, bought him a bus ticket to Florida.

As the pieces of Lloyd’s murder come together, many suspects are being indicted just as Jenkins has. Hernandez is currently being held without bail as he awaits further hearings.

Miley Cyrus pregnant with Juicy J's child

Reports of Miley Cyrus’ pregnancy spread like wildfire, rumor debunked by reliable sources

Can it be true?

The rebellious Miley Cyrus is once again shocking fans with rumor that she is pregnant with rapper Juicy J’s child.  As of late Sunday night, Twitter feeds were bursting with speculations that Cyrus was indeed pregnant with the 38-year-old rappers child. The story broke on CreamBP.com, producing an elaborate story that both Cyrus and Juicy J announced onstage at the BET Awards that they were indeed expecting.

Just as quickly as it appeared, the story was severely torn down by various sources. Instead this became a tale to beware of wary sources. A hoax fabricated by the hip-hop website CreamBP.com, neither Cyrus nor Juicy J acknowledged the rumor despite the tremendous attention on social media sites.

So, jokes on us. The CreamBp.com article issued a detailed account of the incident at the BET Awards but according to the Huffington Post’s official roster of the event, neither artist attended the show. The article also quoted Cyrus as stating, “No, I’m really pregnant.” Even the alleged reaction of the audience, a burst of laughter, appeared a bit odd.

The power of persuasion definitely played a toll in this rumor. Today, it can be difficult to sift the truth from a tall tale. Two hot topic celebrities and a high-profile event. Bizarre but it is not far from other publicity stunts that turn out to be true.

So, is it true? No. Miley Cyrus is not pregnant with Juicy J’s child. This should be a warning, do not believe everything you read.

Neither Cyrus nor Juicy J acknowledged the rumor on their social media accounts in which they update fans on a daily basis.

This rumor will likely be dropped into the spam folder with the rest of the rumor mill.

Amanda Bynes Goes To Rehab for Mental Illness

Amanda Bynes has been admitted into a rehab facility after setting driveway on fire

Amanda Bynes has entered rehab after being released from UCLA’s psychiatric facility. According to police reports, Bynes was involuntarily admitted to UCLA after being arrested for setting fire to a driveway in California. The former Nickelodeon star’s erratic behavior is not her first; her destructive downward spiral began to surface earlier this year when she posted a series of her frighteningly thin body and stating she needed to lose ten pounds.

Bynes began her rampant behavior earlier this year with a slew of photos on Twitter, in which Bynes appeared thin, worn out and barely dressed. It seemed she had shaved and dyed her hair bleach blonde, a new piercing and had received cosmetic surgery. This was an almost unrecognizable appearance from the “girl next door” image we previously knew.

Bynes was also previously charged with a DUI, a warning sign that she was battling addiction. Today, Bynes is struggling with mental health issues and is claimed to be “paranoid,” and her mother has been granted conservatorship, giving her control of Bynes assets until she fully recovers.

Reports state that Bynes’ may be forced to stay in the ultra private Malibu rehab facility for more than a year and a half. In her state, it brings to question how Bynes has come from the adorable young confident girl in “The Amanda Bynes Show” or the beautiful and well-adjusted adult in “Easy A.”

There appears to be an epidemic of celebrities entering rehabilitation centers for various addictions and mental health issues. For fans and onlookers, it is difficult to tell if celebrity rebellions are a marketing strategy or a real cry for help.

Bynes checked into rehab three weeks ago, but sources state the facility is not properly equipped to aide mental illnesses. As of late, it is unclear if Bynes will be moved to a new facility that will help in her recovery.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Set To Play Porn Addict In Don Jon

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has written and directed Don Jon, a comedy about a porn addicted Guido

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in Don Jon, a film about an unforgiving porn addict. Written and directed by Gordon-Levitt, this explicit film has yet to premiere but is already receiving positive reviews.  This film is Gordon-Levitt’s first production and a perfect fit for him as he amazingly disguises a film about porn addiction into a riveting story about intimacy and love.

Gordon- Levitt plays Jon Martello, a Jersey “Guido,” bearing a thick accent, tacky clothes and a cocky attitude. Resembling the comical outtakes of the infamous Jersey Shore series, Don Jon is a comedy that makes light of a very touchy topic, porn. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Tony Danza, and Julianne Moore, Gordon- Levitt assembled an excellent cast for the independent film.

The film follows Jon, who parades around town as a macho, bench-pressing, Italian stud. However, behind closed doors Jon is a masturbating porn addict, who partakes in the act various times per day. So, we repeatedly see Gordon-Levitt willingly, as he did write the script, masturbate to X-rated films.

Meanwhile, Jon falls for Scarlett Johansson’s character, Barbara, who is wrapped into the “happily ever after” scenario thrown down women’s throats. As their relationship develops, Barbara catches wind of Jon’s addiction and thus begins the chore of breaking apart their warped fantasies.

This story does not fall far from reality. Men suffer from intimacy issues and warped expectations of women that media, such as porn, has likely helped alter. And for years, women have been fed Disney fairy tales that insist men are their salvation. Instead, we have porn addicted men and women who wear invisible tiaras. Why not make a film that exaggerates this and leaves audiences laughing hysterically?

Check out Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut and judge for yourself. Don Jon premieres Friday, September 27 in theaters nationwide.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres tonight on ABC

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings Marvel’s big screen success to the small screen tonight on ABC

Marvel’s fans will be glued to their television tonight as the highly anticipated Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to premiere. Avid Marvel gurus will have a large magnifier on the show, hoping to piece together the obvious question, Is Phil Coulson still alive? For all other viewers, we are wondering if the big screen production of films like The Avengers will be as explosive and mind-blowing on the small screen.

The anticipation for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is slowly growing as the trailer alone appears as a full-length movie. The graphics and visuals are tantalizingly exciting, equipped with explosives, genius agents and new super heroes.

Joss Whedon is the mastermind behind this spin-off from his 2012 Marvel’s The Avengers, but Whedon is no stranger to the small screen.  His previous works include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was grippingly addicting for the 90s generation until its last episode.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has the same potential as Buffy to grow into a cult classic. In an interview with Comic-Con International, Whedon teases fans about the resurrection of agent Phil Coulson, “ Well in episode 3 we will reveal he is made of cheese” he jokes. “That is obviously something we are clearly planning to tease out, he continues, “it’s not really about what happened, we make it clear that something happened and it’s gonna be about him dealing with it.” He later revealed that there will be teasers and references to the films but it will also create original pieces for the series to evolve with.

Clark Gregg returns as Agent Coulson who has addressed the undying fear that the show will not reflect the same amazing action sequences as its big screen counterparts, “I thought we were going to get the TV version [of the Marvel movies], which would be a lot of meetings in boardrooms and then a big sequence at the end, and so far that is not what they’re doing at all.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is said to be a new vision for Whedon’s usual directorial choices but is a collaboration of excellent writers like Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen that make it sharp and clever for the extent of the pilot. The dialogue is noted to be quick and witty with an air of mystery that will leave most fans asking for more.

Fans will have to anxiously await tonight’s premiere to give their two cents, no doubt ensuing an array of opinionated Marvel experts on social media.

Tune in to ABC tonight for the premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at 8/7c. If you can’t watch tonight’s episode, an encore is set for Thursday, September 26 at 8/7c.

And The Emmy Goes To…The Underdog

The Primetime Emmy Awards winners left many losing the “office pool”

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards this Sunday threw the experts to a head scratching halt. The show itself was very quant, with little to gawk over, no ‘twerking’ or underdressed actor, an elegant affair all around. Unlike the usual award ceremonies that are over shadowed by the above mentioned, we tend to forget why we are watching the televised assembly of A-list celebrities.

The contender for the coveted title of “Outstanding” was predicted to lean strongly for the gritty series, Breaking Bad.  With the series final set for Sunday, the show would go out recognizing it leads, Bryan Cranston (Lead Actor in a Drama) and Aaron Paul (Supporting Actor in a Drama) for their “outstanding” portrayals as drug dealers, but in fact the wheels churned an entirely different way.

The awards went to the underdogs of the group. Although, every nominee has an insatiable amount of talent, the fan favorites didn’t convince the academy.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama was awarded to Jeff Daniels as Will McAvoy in The Newsroom. Daniels is a veteran to the screen, both big and small, starring in George Clooney’s, Good Night, and Good Luck and Dumb and Dumber with Jim Carrey. However this is the first nomination and win for Daniels, humorously stating in his speech, “Well, crap, I usually don’t win anything, “ and later heckling, “the last award I won was for best actor over 50 in the AARP.”

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama went to Bobby Cannavale as Gyp Rosetti on Boardwalk Empire. New to Boardwalk Empire, Cannavale was a bit shaken when he heard his name called. “I didn’t write anything,” he stated in his acceptance speech. Cannavale has won a previous Emmy award in 2005 for his appearance on Will & Grace as Eric McCormack’s character Will’s, long-term boyfriend.

For Lead Actress in a Drama, Kerry Washington’s role in Scandal was highly favored however Claire Danes walked away with the statue for her role in Homeland. Talk surrounded Washington walking with the Emmy, which could have made her the first African-American woman to receive an award in this category. Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy went to Julia Louis-Dreyfus for her role in Veep, winning over favorites, Tina Fey and Edie Falco. Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama did go to Breaking Bad’s, Anna Gunn, playing Bryan Cranston’s wife.

Other notable wins went to Jim Parsons, for outstanding lead in a comedy in The Big Bang Theory, Tony Hale for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy in Veep, and the reigning comedy, Modern Family, for outstanding comedy series.

Breaking Bad ended a dry night by ultimately receiving Outstanding Drama Series, leaving the airways with 13 nominations and 42 awards to date.

Despite a fairly dull soirée, the highlight of the night goes to Merritt Wever for her supporting actress in a comedy acceptance speech. A teary Wever comically blurted,  “Thank you so much, thank you so much. I gotta go, Bye.”

It was definitely a night for the underdog.

Neil Patrick Harris gets a 'B' for hosting the Emmy's

Neil Patrick Harris’ hosting duties may be wearing him out

The eloquent and understated Primetime Emmy Awards celebrated their 65th year this Sunday with an array of twists that included unexpected winners and a host unlike himself. Neil Patrick Harris hosted the widely renowned Emmy Awards for the second time but has been noted for falling short of his usual charming demeanor.

Instead of opening with his usual operatic dance numbers and draw of witty jokes about the years hits and misses in primetime television, Harris gave audiences a tame performance, more “educational” as he put it. The opening was not the energized dance routine that he is recognized for but a pre-recorded segment of Harris on a TV binge, surrounded by hundreds of television sets, indulging on the ‘Best’ of the season. Not sold? Neither are we.

One segment did however include a barrage of former hosts critiquing Harris’ hosting. Former hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Jane Lynch and Conan O’Brien joked with Harris, on how they were not chosen to be hosts once again. It was clear that his presence was not meant to dominate the show and might not be welcomed again.

Harris assumed a subtle disposition, surprising the audience with one dance routine that held no true substance, but instead declared as the mandatory middle of the show filler. His performance was shaky and lacked the natural jump we have all seen him capable of. Harris’ past hosting duties include the Tony Awards, hosting for the past 4 years in a row. Last night’s performance was that of an exhausted host, with few laughs and shaky acts.

Given, this year’s Emmy’s were scattered with memorandum’s of the recently deceased and left everyone scratching their head over the winners and “losing the Emmy’s office pool,” as Harris cleverly predicted.

For Harris, perhaps this is a sign of the master of ceremonies slow demise from hosting duties.  Harris’ next hosting gig has yet to be announced.

Washington Navy Yard shooter identified as Aaron Alexis

Aaron Alexis has been identified as the lone shooter in Washington Navy Yard mass shoot-out

Alleged Washington Navy Yard shooter, Aaron Alexis was shot and killed Monday afternoon after a mass shooting ensued earlier in the morning. Aaron Alexis has been suspected to be the lone shooter, claiming 12 victims’ lives in the nearly five-hour shoot-out. As the story continues to unfold, a myriad of questions have arisen: who is Aaron Alexis and what were his motives? Little is known about the gunman causing the FBI to release an official photo asking for further information on Aaron Alexis. Slowly, authorities are struggling to piece together the identity of this unsuspecting man. However, from what information that authorities have collected, Alexis had a history of anger-management problems that prompted the use of a firearm.

According to Navy officials, Aaron Alexis, 34, enlisted in the Reserves in 2007 and was listed as being a navy aviation electrician’s mate third class until his discharge in 2011. Authorities claim that Alexis still maintained secret security clearance, which gave him clear access to the naval yard Washington that Monday morning.

In Seattle, Alexis had previous scuffles with the law, both involving negligent use of a firearm. In 2004, Alexis was accused of firing shots at a construction worker’s vehicle. Police reports stated that Alexis claimed he felt the workers disrespected him and did not recall shooting the vehicle because of a “black-out” that he experienced due to his anger. The report was later claimed to have been dropped due to clerical error.

In September 2010 in Texas, Alexis was also arrested for suspicion of discharging a firearm. The reports state that a women was ‘visibly shaken’ after a shot was fired straight through the floor of her apartment. Alexis, the apartment directly underneath, had previously called the police complaining of noise disruption. When police came to his apartment, Alexis did not open until the fire department was called to forcibly open the residence. Alexis reported that he was cleaning his gun while cooking, which caused his hands to be slippery and unintentionally fire the shot through the ceiling. Although police reports were made, formal charges were never filed.

Alexis’ father has previously stated that his son suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from being at Ground Zero on September 11, 2001, where he helped survivors and first response officers. The events from that day left him “traumatized” claimed his father. According to authorities, Alexis was enrolled in the Borough of Manhattan Community College during the attacks, which was adjacent to the Twin Towers.

Personal friends of Alexis have shared that he was a peaceful man, who loved the Thai culture, visiting Thailand and becoming fluent in Thai. He had also become a follower of Buddhism, attending a local temple in Forth Worth, TX. He became friendly with a Thai family, working at their Thai restaurant, noted to be kind to customers, speaking to them in their native language.

Many investigators have searched for Alexis in various databases and have found no outstanding suspicious behavior or activity other than his previous bouts with the police. As information is still surfacing, it is unclear what caused Aaron Alexis to shoot and kill a dozen people. What we do know is that he suffered from anger-management issues that may have been associated with PTSD.

There appears to be a missing link in the life of Aaron Alexis, one that triggered this merciless shoot-out. As details are revealed, we hope that information will answer the question that many grieving families are wondering, “Why?”

Bill Cosby speaks to Don Lemon about improving African American community through education

Bill Cosby speaks about improving African American community through education; major criticism ensues

Bill Cosby spoke with CNN’s Don Lemon on September 14 about the underpinnings of underprivileged African American youth. This comes after Lemon’s latest turn to race in America, in due to the recent anniversary of the March on Washington. A renegade for higher education, Cosby spoke with Lemon on parental roles he stated ultimately effect their children’s own future, greatly emphasizing the need to take responsibility of their lives, explicitly men. Unlike his usual comedic demeanor, he held a firm stance on the issues surrounding race and economic onslaught.

Cosby interview included candid commentary, stating that the “good things” do not need to be discussed as he quickly backed his statements for the viewers who would be offended by the negative view of African American’s lifestyle. In his interview he addresses the growing rate of imprisoned men, low level of education and increasing need for greater paternal presence in family life.

Lemon began his interview by asking what new leadership was needed to encourage a greater change. Cosby responded:

“I think it has to come from the universities,” Cosby begins. “I think, women, strongly because when you see 70%, in research, that says they are the leaders of the household, what we need is for people to realize I want to raise my kid. I want to go back and get my three kids. I want to take on that responsibility. I want to love my children,” he continues as he states the essence of children’s success is the stability of the family including the father.

He also includes the pressing need to continue education, never negating the level of education but rather encouraging youth to pursue the highest degree possible pertinently pointing out that it is not about the prestige of the school but rather the personal accomplishments of the individual.  He relays, “Okay, you backed up and didn’t do well. You quit school but now you find you need that high school credential. Go to the community college.”

Cosby creates a personal connection to this struggle as he responds,  “At age 19 and a half, I knew I didn’t want to do certain things. It is not what they weren’t doing to me, it’s what I wasn’t doing. It’s a very simple thing.”

He then lays out the overmedication of incarcerated juveniles. His argument lies in the endless circle that medicated youth are denied outside of prison that will likely place them “in the same place.”

Cosby’s most notable comment has been noted as “Now, about this time, this is when you hear the no-groes jump up and say ‘Why don’t you talk about the good things?’”

Cosby’s blunt commentary has been highly criticized but neither Cosby nor Lemon has backed down. Cosby is part of the growing number of interviews that Lemon has collected for his renegade of race within America. Lemon has come under attack from various other leaders, including Russell Simmons, who issued an open letter to Lemon.
