Jay-Z to release Live album/DVD

Live in Brooklyn will showcase Jay-Z’s Barclay’s Center concert series

Jay-Z has announced that he will release a new album following the close of his eight night concert performance at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. The album, Live in Brooklyn, will include both audio and visual material recorded during Jay-Z’s Saturday, October 6 concert at the Brooklyn venue.

Members close to Jay-Z’s camp have revealed that Live in Brooklyn will contain eight tracks and eight videos from the rapper’s eight night run at the Barclay’s Center.

16 years ago, Shawn Corey Carter tore the lid off of the hip-hop industry with the release of his debut album Reasonable Doubt (1996). Since then, the Brooklyn native has added more titles to his resume, making the former Marcy Project Houses resident one of the most financially successful rappers in America. Rapper and producer do not even begin to describe the magnitude of Jay-Z’s success.

The former CEO of Def Jam Recordings, one of three founders of Roc-A-Fella Records, founder of label Roc Nation, creator of Rocawear clothing and part-owner of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z’s estimated net worth exceeds $450 million as of 2011.

Even through everything, music hasn’t once seemed to have taken a backseat to the hip-hop mogul’s recent ventures. Jay-Z just happens to find himself on the other side of the fence, or the studio glass for that matter, running labels catering to younger, up and coming hip-hop artists like J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Bridget Kelly and even Willow Smith.

Being a business man hasn’t made Jay-Z a stranger to the mic, no. He still finds time to team up with close friend and fellow Roc-A-Fella artist Kanye West on tracks like Mercy (feat. Big Sean) and the album Watch the Throne, with its unforgettable banner anthem “N***** in Paris.”

Jay-Z’s influence on the hip-hop industry is unparalleled. He has been hailed as one of the greatest rappers of all time by various music publications such as Rolling Stone, Blender and even MTV, with fourteen Grammy Awards to show for it.

Live in Brooklyn looks to be the latest project for Jay-Z and is slated for an October 9 release exclusively on iTunes.
