So you caught him cheating

What is the next step?

Last night you found out that he was cheating on you and decided to sit on the information until you decided the best way to act on it. Well, it happens to be that you found the right place to twirl those upsetting thoughts through your mind and mull over the course of action that you may want to take. First off, you’ve got to remember that you are only in college. Yep, in the movies, and sometimes even in real life; people fall in love during their freshman year away and build a family that lasts for the rest of their lives. That, however, is just the exception to the rule. The rule, in fact, happens to be that there is simply no rule to the game of love. College is a great time for finding yourself partially. It is not the perfect time to find out just exactly who you are though. And it is most assuredly not the right time to place a large majority of your focus on finding the man that you want to be with forever. With that being said, you discovering that your significant other is a cheater is probably the best thing that could ever happen to you. Instead of staying with that person for the next two semesters, fighting, loving, and breaking up, then making up, you are finally able to focus on you and move away from this detrimental relationship. So of course you could walk into their dorm room and proceed to beat on his brand new computer as you cry your eyes out. You could even send a series of text messages to him professing your undying love and asking why he could possibly be sleeping with someone else. Heck, the thought might even cross your mind to go and find one of his best friends, get them slightly drunk, and then let them have you. But with all of these choices you are losing a couple of things. First off, you will lose all self-respect if you act in any of those fore mentioned ways. Secondly, you will not be acting as a godly and respectable woman. Instead, simply face the facts of the situation that if you caught your ‘Man’ cheating on you…. He clearly wasn’t your man to begin with. A simple call –a text won’t suffice- with the intent of making a quick point and sticking to your guns is the best method of action. Don’t let them beg for forgiveness and don’t lose your cool. Losing your cool will give them the upper hand again and we don’t want that. Tell them in a sweet way that you are no longer interested in seeing them and that you wish them the best. Avoid getting into another relationship to quickly because that will only make you look as though you had already been seeing someone else. It will also prevent you from focusing on yourself. So what, you found out that the man you had been with had not been in your corner. That doesn’t mean that you need to break from character, and it doesn’t mean that you are any less of a woman. But the way that you handle the situation can be sure to solidify who you are, and that can be a bad thing or a good thing. It is all up to you!

Celebrity Atheists

Can you push Religion

Can you PUSH religion on people? I don’t think that there is a such thing as forcing religion on anyone. In fact, it seems that it is the easiest thing to simply ‘Slide’ into. Something that seems to have been lost on this generation, something that definitely needs to make its way back into the forefront of our society, is also one of the most shunned subjects and topics to be discussed. Do you believe in God? That seems like a pretty straight forward question. At least if you look at it in the way that most Christians do. The answer can only be one thing and that is, Yes! Unfortunately, there is not always a cut and dry way that people look at these things and college seems to be the easiest place to slip away from the fundamentals that had been instilled in us at the earliest of ages. Rather than thinking of God and ways to draw near to him, college years are packed with parties, sex, experimentation and other things that aren’t exactly the holiest. So, what makes it so easy for students to run away from their Christian roots and come to the conclusion that they are untouchable? Well, let’s just look at the culture that we live in today. Yep, the era of idolizing individuals that we have never met and most likely never will; the era of Celebrity. These celebrities are the most buzzed about Atheists today and they aren’t ashamed to admit it. –Although they should be Afraid to!- (Quotes from a few celebrities that lack God) • Emma Thompson: “I’m an atheist; I suppose you can call me a sort of libertarian anarchist. I regard religion with fear and suspicion. It’s not enough to say that I don’t believe in God. I actually regard the system as distressing: I am offended by some of the things said in the Bible and the Koran, and I refute them.” –Her response toward her religious beliefs… Which she has none of! • Daniel Radcliffe: “I’m an atheist, but I’m very relaxed about it. I don’t preach my atheism, but I have a huge amount of respect for people like Richard Dawkins who do.” –Another crazy comment! • Javier Bardem: “I’ve always said I don’t believe in God; I believe in Al Pacino.” –Do not worship false idols! • Julianne Moore: “Well, I guess you were wrong. I do exist.” –Her response to what she would expect to hear from God at the gates of Heaven. • Keira Knightley: “If only I wasn’t an atheist; I could get away with anything. You’d just ask for forgiveness, and then you’d be forgiven.” – Obviously she has NEVER read the word of God! • Paul Giamatti: “My wife is Jewish and I’m fine with my son being raised as a Jew. … I will talk to my son about my atheism when the time is right.” –They must not know that a house divided against itself will not stand! • Billy Joel: “No. I’m an atheist.” –His ignorant response when he was asked of his belief in God.

Get your SLEEP Right

Ensuring a proper Sleep/Wake Cycle

How do you know if you are getting enough sleep? College, well school in itself, can cause anyone’s sleep/wake cycle to suffer. Too many hours in class, way too much homework that needs to be completed, and study sessions that span the course of an entire evening. Although it may be necessary, to go through these things, it is equally as necessary to get proper amounts of rest. Not only will you have a better overall mood if you’ve gotten enough rest, but your grades will also show fruits. Since it is hard to adjust to college life and the surroundings, there are a few things that you can do in order to ensure getting the most out of your evenings. First of all, it is important to have a plan and routine that you stick to. Your body adapts to things quickly, however, it also exerts more energy when you are placing deep thought into things. Having a routine helps to cut down on the decision making process, thus cutting down on some of the energy that is utilized. Second, your routine should contain soothing methods of relaxation. It is easy enough to pop a sleeping pill and knock yourself out for the evening. However, individuals who are taking sleep aids are often robbed of the valuable levels of REM sleep. This is detrimental in the sense that your brain is not able to work out all of the ‘trash’ from the day. It is much better to just drift off to sleep in the most natural of ways. Once you have gotten a decent routine in place, there are a few things that can aid you in the continuation of positive sleep habits. Purchasing a set of ear plugs in order to drown out the noise of eager students will most definitely be a must. You might also want to look into the procurement of ‘black-out blinds’. These blinds will allow you to make your room as dark as possible for those days in which you have evening courses and morning naps. Although the food in the dining area is seemingly delicious, be sure to avoid eating late at night. The way that your body processes food may also prevent you from slipping into a fulfilling sleep at night. –Not to mention the health and weight issues it may bring.- There are many reasons that it is beneficial to have a healthy sleep/wake cycle, but the most important may be the fact that the quality of sleep you receive places direct impact on your mood and productivity of the day.

Spring Break 2015

Where to Go

Spring break is a time for students to get a much needed escape from the intricacies of college life. A time to temporarily replace all of those nights of late night study sessions and early morning crammers with a well thought out getaway with friends and family. For the 2014/2015 school year, spring breakers have been reserving more hotel rooms on the Vegas strip than ever before. This jump in Las Vegas bookings makes it 2015’s most popular and sought after spring break destination. The big city names that have also made the list include Phoenix, New York City, Orange County and Orlando. –These stats are coming from the hotel reservations made by college students on Priceline.com- With everything that comes up while in College, it is easy to go over budget and to over extend yourself in many other ways as well. It is important that, while you desire to have a banging Spring Break, your are sure to keep your persona finances in mind and plan, budget, and spend accordingly. When done in the right way and planned in full, even the students with a hefty amount of debt can enjoy a spring break getaway with friends. First thing to remember is that it is always cheaper to plan and purchase in advance. No matter if your are flying across the country, or just driving to ‘Uncle Ben’s’ place, it is always recommended to get your travel itinerary in order long in advance. Plane tickets are much less expensive when purchased weeks, and even months, in advance. It is always a good idea to buy tickets for n airlines slower days, as well as purchasing in advance because the price increases as the need becomes more imminent. If you are unable to get away from the campus for spring break playtime, simply suit up for an adventure on campus. Despite the fact that many people will tell you that there is NOTHING exciting about staying on campus, there truly is. Be sure to check out the ‘Spring Break in the Dorms’ article that will be posted this evening. Be safe this season and have a blast!

To Conform or Not to Conform

That is the question

The ability to fit in just seems to come easier to some types of individuals. I suppose you could say that they just find the place that best fits them without having to change themselves. Others, however, are under stress to find ways to conform to today’s culture. But why has it become more acceptable to be the person that you see others being instead of just being yourself? Conformity, in its purest form, is behavior in accordance with socially accepted conventions or standards. When you think of it as plainly as it is stated, you may see how conforming to society will prove beneficial to one’s self and others. The problem in society today happens to be the type of socially acceptable norms that everyone seems to be conforming to. No longer is it the “cool” thing to be a faithful Christian and devoted member of your family. Instead, more and more individuals are running around with a painted chip on their shoulder, becoming unwitting followers of a culture that is, for lack of a better phrase, failing itself. So how can we fix these issues before we lose an entire generation -or at least a majority of it- to drugs, parties, Godlessness and a slew of other problematic states? Stop Pushing Conformity! Fewer television shows full of sex and drugs, more immersion in the word of God, and changing the dynamics of the classroom. If we are all marching to the same uniformed beat, shouldn’t we be marching to a beat in which we will be able to rise up and be proud of who we are today as we wake up in the morning tomorrow? Shouldn’t we find the reasons within ourselves to be just that; to finally be ourselves? As those precious four years that are spent in college come and go, it is important that as the seasons change, as the snow melts and days are extended, you find who you are. Never to stay the same person, but to improve upon yourself and enhance your qualities and abilities. I mean, isn’t that what college is all about?

Alpha Sigma Epsilon's Fall

University of Oklahoma disbands ASE

By now everyone heard of the fiasco that occurred with certain University of Oklahoma students and their need to create a video that was full of racial hatred. Now, the President of the University has stepped up and placed a much needed reprimand on those involved. Saturday evening, the members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity were caught on camera singing a racist song that has brought back old memories of how the University was over a generation ago, and how far they have, or have not come in recent years. “I have emphasized that there is zero tolerance for this kind of threatening racist behavior at the University of Oklahoma,” Boren said. “I hope the entire nation will join us in having zero tolerance of such racism when it raises its ugly head in other situations across our country.” Boren didn’t just talk the talk, instead he went further, severing ties with the local chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and expelling two of the students involved. Many of you are probably wondering why it was a mere two individuals that were expelled from the school following Saturday’s incident. The reason, albeit a grey area, is due to the fact that there is a need to show students participating in a leadership capacity in order for the expulsion to be an acceptable avenue. With that being said, the University is continuing to look into the incident, as well as reviewing the video footage. It can only be expected that we will be hearing more from the Boren and other faculty members within the upcoming days and weeks. The surrounding community has rallied together to battle such racial hatred and segregation by staging protests on the Universities Campus grounds over the last couple of days. One individual stating that he was ashamed to call the University of Oklahoma his alma mater. All that can be confirmed at this moment is that the university is trying to show its best side by expelling those students, -Which will be effective immediately- but how do we know that what we are seeing by the universities reps is not just face-saving press? Only time will tell!

Ferguson Unravels Following DOJ Investigation

A New Style of Old Racism

It hasn’t been a secret that Ferguson Missouri has been going through some serious crises within the last several months. In fact, it has been a well-publicized, and highly debated matter. Following the shooting of Michael Brown, an 18 year old, unarmed black man, things began to take flight. Not only was there a buzz swirling around about a police cover up and the wrongful handling of the Grand Jury, but also an intense argument between the citizens of Ferguson and the justice officials. Once the Grand Jury refused to indict Darren Wilson of Any criminal charges, the fighting and protesting began again, calming only after Federal justice officials promised to take a thorough look into the case, as well as the Ferguson police department and its judicial system. Yesterday, the Department of Justice finally released their findings to the public. As we all expected, their findings were just further validation of what has been known, and lived, by this racially divided community for years. Though there are many reasons that cause concern, the disparities statistically have been the highlight of the newly released report. With 67% of the community being African-American, the DOJ found that they had incredibly high arrest, conviction and even citation rates. Rates that should have never been that high when looked at in reference to the actual percentage of African-Americans within the communities. The report goes into further detail showing that, of the 67% black population in Ferguson, 90% of Citations were issued to blacks, 93% of arrests made were of blacks, and 85% of traffic stops had been of African-American individuals. Not only were these numbers cause for immense concern, they are proof of definite racial profiling and the wrongful handling of the African-American community. Furthermore, during the DOJ’s investigation, e-mails had surfaced in which individuals whom were in positions pf power, were speaking in an incredibly derogatory fashion about people that were not of the Caucasian race. Some of these e-mails even came to throw shade toward the President and First Lady. This morning it was confirmed that three of the individuals involved in the transmission of those racists e-mails have been let go from the department, while two have been suspended. However, individuals are of the firm belief that the two suspended officer’s jobs will not survive the investigation. We will be continuing to cover this story as it develops.

March at the Movies

Theater Inflations

Opening in the box office this month are quite a few must see films for both adults and children. We have the new Divergent installment ‘Insurgent’, a brand new Liam Neeson Film entitled ‘Run All Night’, and even a brand new Cinderella. As this month of must see films approaches, let’s look at how things have changed in the expenses of one of Americas favorite pastimes. Going to the movies has always been something exciting. As children, there was an anxious desire to get in there and stare in awe of the massive screen and moving figures. Adolescence and adulthood gives a new perspective on the movie scene, albeit a similar excitement. Perfect for close dates with a new beau or even with a long-term flame, you are able to enjoy the closeness of one another without the need to have continuous conversation. Which works wonders afterwards as well seeing as to how you are able to converse about the movie on your long drive home. So, as we live in the world of the internet, have movie sales gone down due to the –almost always- free nature of online streaming? The Business Insider suggests that it is far from losing revenue. Yep, there are a few theaters that have closed their doors or sold their rights, however, there are quite a few more that have adapted to the changing times. In 2104, the average price of a single admission ticket was placed at $8.15 which is an incredible rise from the price of $6.50 a mere ten years ago in 2004. Theaters have also been revamping their atmosphere, implementing larger luxury seats, better food selections, and even other sources of entertainment within their doors. All of these methods are meant to draw in both new and repeat customers, thus bringing in big bucks. Hey, don’t worry about the prices of a movie ticket and all that comes along with it. Remember, there are ways to avoid these high prices, and keep money in your pockets. Most theaters are offering discounted tickets during their ‘slower’ hours and/or days of operation. These days will typically fall during the week and will exclude special showings such as IMAX. You can also look for special times in which you would be able to obtain cheaper concessions and even game tokens. Heading to the movies is always going to remain exciting and can be done in a cost effective fashion. So, look for these discounts and watch one for me!
