Peyton Manning and the Broncos reach $96 million deal

Tebow is now the quarterback in question. Where will he go?

Peyton Manning and the Broncos have made a deal, and Peyton Manning has a new home team.

Peyton Manning and the Broncos agreed to a five-year, $96 million deal.

Peyton Manning and the Broncos are expected to give a news conference at 3 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Indianapolis Colts fans will certainly miss their beloved Super Bowl champ, but the Denver Broncos are lucky to have him.

“I congratulate Peyton as he heads to a tremendous organization in the Denver Broncos,” Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said in a statement Tuesday, “We wish him nothing but the best as he continues his Hall of Fame career.”

Peyton Manning and the Broncos are both taking a chance on the season after Manning spent last season on the bench recovering from a neck injury. Both Peyton Manning and the Broncos hope that he will be in full health to start the season, and Peyton is surely ready to get back into the thick of the action on the field.

Now that Peyton Manning and the Broncos have started their new relationship, what does that mean for Tim Tebow?

Tim Tebow’s fate is pretty much the same as Peyton’s was one week ago. No one knows where he will go, but then again speculation is half the fun.

Some think Tebow will end up with the Miami Dolphins, while others are guessing the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Eagles and the Patriots have both been tossed into the mix as both likely and unlikely match-ups.

We may not know what will happen to Tim Tebow, but at least, Peyton Manning and the Broncos have settled one of our quarterback questions.

Kate Hudson didn't tie the knot despite what her mom says

Moms.

Kate Hudson is still single.

Well, not entirely single. Kate Hudson and fiancé Matt Bellamy have not tied the knot despite recent rumors spawned by, who else? Goldie Hawn.

Goldie Hawn, mother of the seemingly non-bride, told the Evening Standard recently, “When my daughter Kate married an English rock star it didn’t worry me; all that matters is that the relationship is a good one.”

However, it appears that Mom misspoke. And whose mom hasn’t?

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy are apparently still engaged but not married.

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy welcomed their first son, Bing, last summer and became engaged in 2011 as well.

Goldie Hawn decided to set the record straight on Twitter, saying that her words had been “twisted.”

Well, Kate Hudson may not be secretly married, but the couple hasn’t been upfront with information about their relationship. So, don’t be surprised if a secret wedding does take place; it just hasn’t happened yet.

Nicollette Sheridan legal battle at a stand still

Nicollete Sheridan’s wrongful termination suit has the jury split

Nicollette Sheridan went to the courts in a wrongful termination case against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry recently, but the jury just can’t make up its mind.

Nicollette Sheridan claims Marc Cherry killed off her character, Edie Britt, after she sued him for hitting her on the head during filming. The battery charge was thrown out, but that hasn’t stopped Nicollette Sheridan from filing a wrongful termination suit.

However, the jury is deadlocked. The judge has declared a mistrial because no verdict could be reached. Nicollette Sheridan did not win the case, but she didn’t lose either. Her attorney says they will just have to try again.

Eight jurors, only one short of the required nine, sided with Nicollette Sheridan. The other four jurors sided with Touchstone Television Productions, whose lawyers said Marc Cherry never hit Sheridan and that the plot line had included Edie’s death for months before the incident.

Much of the testimony focused on the timing of Nicollette Sheridan being released from the show. Ten witnesses said Marc Cherry had made the decision to kill off Edie Britt months before the alleged hitting incident, but two writers for the show said that Edie’s death wasn’t a sure thing until the intital afterwards.

Nicollette Sheridan’s lawyer said that he is confident he can swing the one extra vote needed in a retrial.

Desperate Housewives may be ending this year after an eight-season run, but the showdown between Nicollette Sheridan and the show’s creator may outlast the finale. Stay tuned for round two of this not-so-epic legal battle.

Vernal equinox, spring equinox, same thing. It's the first day of spring!

Mid-80s temperatures and dog-days thunderstorms greet the vernal equinox with summer weather

Vernal equinox. Spring equinox. The first day of spring. Whatever you want to call it, it has arrived.

The vernal equinox (okay, spring equinox if you prefer), the day in which daylight is equal to nighttime, and we gratefully welcomed a fresh spring season, arrived at 1:14 a.m. EDT on Tuesday.

The arrival of spring is welcomed, but in large areas of the United States, it really isn’t making much of a difference. Some regions are expected to reach summer-like temperatures in the mid-80s today, and many have been experiencing 70-degree averages for more than a week.

The vernal equinox arrived anticlimactically after a winter of very little action. No Snowmageddon this year. And, the March “in like a lion, out like a lamb” line really won’t play much of a role this year, either.

The entire month has been very lamb-like for most of the country; although, some areas of the Midwest would disagree.

With a major storm system moving through the central United States, the conditions are just right for violent weather to occur. And it has.

Tornadoes touched down in Dallas and San Antonio late Monday night, and Nebraska was hit Sunday. Recently, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Missouri were hit by deadly tornadoes, all due to storm systems we typically see later in the spring and early summer.

Weather wise, spring arrived early this year, but 2012 also marks the earliest vernal equinox since 1892 in an astronomical sense. Although March 21 is often thought of as the “first day of spring”, it hasn’t been so for more than 30 years. From 1981 to 2102, Americans will celebrate the vernal equinox no later than March 20.

A year isn’t an even number of days, and neither is a season. So the dates marking new seasons change from year to year depending on Earth’s orbit.

But, that doesn’t really make a difference right now because spring is here. The cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. are in full bloom, flies are annoyingly buzzing around heads as people try to absorb as much fresh air as possible and perennials are popping out of the ground a little bit early.

Happy vernal equinox … or spring equinox? Well, happy first day of spring!

San Antonio weather reports include tornado and flooding

A tornado touched down near San Antonio late Monday night, and now the area is gearing up for flash flooding

San Antonio weather reports warned against flash flooding Monday, but this morning residents in the San Antonio area are cleaning up after a tornado touched down late Monday night.

The National Weather Service and San Antonio weather reports said that the tornado touched down 25 miles southwest of San Antonio on Monday evening, and parts of the city and surrounding areas were under a tornado warning.

The San Antonio weather reports have been full of bad news this week. Residents in the area have been bracing for flooding after the severe weather brought on heavy rainfall and hail, which is expected to continue for at least a few more days.

The tornado added to the San Antonio weather concerns. The weather pattern is slow-moving, and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected to bring a foot of rain in some areas by midweek.

There is a silver lining to the thunderstorms that have been adding to the severe San Antonio weather this week.

2011 was reported to be the year of Texas’ worst one-year drought ever. The company, which manages the region’s water supply said that the more water the area gets now, the better off they’ll be down the road.

Actually, his wife had him. He just caught him.

The couple was married in August 2010, and welcomed their daughter Olivia a month later.

He also tweeted, “If you oculd bottle up and distribute this feeling, I swear there’d be no more war. #fatherhood”

His wife tweeted on Tuesday as well.

“Had such a blessed and miraculous birth experience. Cannot wait to share it with all of you,” and, “Thank you for all the love and good wishes. I can feel it all.”

James Van Der Beek will return to television in the new ABC series Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23 in April.

Lizzie Borden letters shed new light on 120 year old murder trial

What was her involvement in the unsolved double murder of her father and stepmother?

Lizzie Borden is the notorious Sunday school teacher who was accused of butchering her parents with an ax.

Lizzie Borden took an ax, gave her mother 40 whacks and when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41.

But did she?

Lizzie Borden was acquitted in the murder trial, but 120 years later her lawyer’s handwritten journals have been discovered.

Andrew Jackson Jennings, who represented Lizzie Borden in the murder trial, kept meticulous records in journals about the main characters involved in the story— Lizzie Borden, her father Andrew Borden and her stepmother Abby.

Although Lizzie Borden was acquitted of the charges, she went down in history as a cold-hearted individual and most people today believe she did kill her parents.

Andrew Borden was painted as a strict man who didn’t provide for his daughters. But letters written by Lizzie Borden herself while she was held in prison pending trial show her grief and love for her father.

Curator Michael Martins published 40 letters written by Lizzie Borden.

“You have to create villains in order to justify the murders, and Andrew Borden is portrayed as evil,” Martins said, “but he gave his daughters a lot more than some other fathers were giving theirs.”

The letters do not reveal whether or not Lizzie Borden did kill her parents, though.

In 1892, the Bordens’ maid Maggie Sullivan woke up from a nap to the sound of Lizzie Borden screaming. She had found her father, hacked to death, on a couch in the living room. Later, Abby’s body was discovered in the guest room upstairs.

Lizzie Borden and her sister had been upset with their father, and Lizzie Borden had a tumultuous relationship with her stepmother. The sisters had also been upset with their father for a vindictive incident in which he chopped the heads off Lizzie’s pet pigeons with an ax.

Eli Bence, a local druggist, claimed that Lizzie Borden had tried to by cyanide from him around the time of the murders, but was unsuccessful.

The entire family became ill soon after.

The high-profile murders remain unsolved.

“Most of what is known about Lizzie Borden is based on legend, innuendo and outright lies,” Martins said, “Fact has been suppressed by fiction, and the fiction is much more interesting to a lot of people.”

The image of a quiet 32 year-old woman living at home with her family one day and brutally hacking them to death with an ax the next will not easily fade from folklore. But the journals have the potential to paint Lizzie Borden in a new light.

For those who are more interested in the pop culture version of the Lizzie Borden story, the family’s home has been turned into the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum. Guests can spend the night in Lizzie Borden’s bedroom, and the sofa, in which her father was found murdered is still in the house.

The bed and breakfast serves under the morbid slogan, “Where we treat everyone like family.”

CBS renews 18 prime-time series for Fall

‘Two Broke Girls’ is back, but the jury is out on ‘Two and a Half Men’

CBS has renewed 18 prime-time shows for the 2012-13 season, becoming the first broadcaster to make the announcement.

CBS is still in “preliminary discussions” about the fate of Two and a Half Men. Ashton Kutcher only signed a one-year deal as Charlie Sheen’s replacement on the show.

CBS announced the rest of their Monday lineup, How I Met Your Mother, Mike and Molly, and Two Broke Girls will be back.

The Big Bang Theory will also be back for another season on CBS.
The total lineup includes four comedies, nine dramas, three reality series, and two newsmagazine shows.

CBS will bring back NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Hawaii Five-O. However, the fates of CSI: New York and CSI: Miami have not yet been determined.

CBS also ordered new seasons of The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, and Person of Interest.

Other dramas that will return include Blue Bloods and The Good Wife.
Reality shows The Amazing Race, Undercover Boss, and Survivor will also make a return.

60 Minutes and 48 Hours Mystery will return to CBS as well.

“The large-scale renewal is testimony to the strength, stability and success of a deep and diverse roster of top-rated programming,” Nina Tassler, CBS entertainment president, said.

Unforgettable, A Gifted Man, Rules of Engagement, and Rob have not yet been renewed, but they haven’t necessarily been cancelled either. They may be competing with potential new series for spots in the lineup.

Mike D'Antoni resigns as Knicks' head coach

The decision stunned his friends and players, but some saw this coming 13 months ago.

Mike D’Antoni resigned from his position as head coach of the Knicks Wednesday.

The split between Mike D’Antoni and the Knicks surprised some, but others saw it coming since the acquisition of Carmelo Anthony.

Mike D’Antoni and Carmelo Anthony’s clashing styles have been building tension since Carmelo Anthony was brought onto the Knicks 13 months ago.

Wednesday morning, Mike D’Antoni met with team officials to ask if they would be open to trading Carmelo Anthony before Thursday’s 3 p.m. deadline.

When James L. Dolan, the chairman of Madison Square Garden, said no, Mike D’Antoni offered his resignation.

Nets coach Avery Johnson was surprised to hear about the Knicks losing Mike D’Antoni.

“I thought he worked his butt off after coming to New York from Phoenix,” Avery Johnson said, “Obviously he had two years where he took over a pretty decimated situation, but he got back on track last year. Of course they had some ups and downs this year—that’s part of it. But, I didn’t expect that to happen.”

Avery Johnson also commented on the tension between Mike D’Antoni and Carmelo Anthony.

“Well, I think the key is you being consistent. Another big key is for ownership o have your back… I think the key is for everybody to be on the same page,” Avery Johnson said.

Carmelo Anthony thrives as a primary ball-handler, but point guard Jeremy Lin recently took over that role. Mike D’Antoni believes that whoever is open should take the shot, and Carmelo Anthony never fully bought into that offensive system.

It’s an unfortunate situation,” Carmelo Anthony said, “ There’s no bad blood between myself, Mike D’Antoni, the guys on the team or anything like that. We respect his decision. He said he did what was best for the team at this point in time right now.”

The decision stunned many of Mike D’Antoni’s friends and Knicks players, most who believed in the Mike D’Antoni system.

Golden Nugget Casino catches fire

One man is in critical condition after the blaze broke out at the famous Las Vegas casino

The Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas caught fire at approximately 8:26 a.m. Thursday.

One man was rushed to a Las Vegas medical center in critical condition following the fire at the Golden Nugget Casino.

Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski said firefighters found the unconscious man in a guest room in a Golden Nugget Casino hotel room on the unoccupied 22nd floor.

The 22nd floor is among several being renovated at the Golden Nugget Casino, but officials do not know yet whether the man was a worker or an intruder.

Approximately 60 people evacuated from the 21st floor, and nine people left the suites on the 25th floor of the Golden Nugget Casino. The three floors in between are unoccupied due to the renovations.

Szymanski says it appears the fire was confined to one room.
