Small quake in Berkeley

Fourth to hit the area in last two weeks

Another earthquake rattled Berkeley at 2:42 a.m. this morning. This 2.4 magnitude quake is the latest in a string of earthquakes in the Berkeley area.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, today’s earthquake hit in Strawberry Canyon and was 6.2 miles deep. No damage was reported.

This morning’s earthquake follows a 3.6 shaker this past Thursday and two on October 20 measuring 4.0 and 3.8. All four centered at the UC Berkeley campus.

Seismologists said there’s no reason to believe the small quakes are a sign a larger quake is coming.
