Boos for Bieber

Justin Bieber gets boos from crowd

Miguel ended his Billboard Music Award performance on Sunday night soaring over the crowd, unintentionally kicking a woman in the head.  Khyati, the unfortunate victim of circumstance, was thrown off of her feet and hit the side of the stage, but wasn’t seriously hurt.  After the show Khyati got the chance to meet Miguel backstage, who later tweeted “Got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is okay.”  The “leg drop” mishap went viral, resulting in a slew of memes photoshopping Miguel in wrestling rings and other similar situations.  Miguel, the 27-year-old singer/songwriter from LA, was nominated for Top R&B Song for “Adorn” at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, but lost out to Rihanna’s song “Diamonds.”

Justin Bieber also experienced a bit of embarrassment at the Billboard Awards.  Bieber was the recipient of the fan-voted Milestone Award, topping other nominees Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars.  Ironically, Bieber received boos from the crowd for demanding to be taken seriously.  “I’m 19 years old – I think I’m doing a pretty good job. It should really be about the music and the craft that I’m making. This is not a gimmick. I’m an artist, and I should be taken seriously. All this other bull should not be spoken of.”  To his credit, Bieber seemed to keep his composure while audience members voiced their disapproval.  Later, the young singer and social media frequenter didn’t directly address the situation but rather tweeted “2 performances and 2 awards. Grateful to my #Beliebers. Our awards. Love u” Earlier in the show, Bieber made two performances: his single “Take You” and “#thatPOWER” with Will. I. Am.
