Cheap summer date ideas for couples

Low on cash? In a relationship? Try something new!

Rebeccah Lee

When summer vacation starts, college couples are free to use their free time in a variety of ways. But what about if the amount of money to spend is limited? Here are some tips for those couples who are looking for fun that’s inexpensive and away from campus!

Happy Hours (No, you don’t have to be 21 years old):

It might sound too easy, but happy hours at restaurants are a great way to get out of the house and save on cash. Cocktails and drafts aren’t the only things included; many restaurants offer special deals on food, too! Find local restaurants that offer happy hours, but don’t feel restricted when it comes to picking one out. Make it interesting by trying out a restaurant the two of you haven’t been to and experiment a little!

City Events:

Are there any events coming up that your city sponsors? Take a look at the events your city is providing to the public. These events are often less costly, and sometimes they can be totally free of charge! Performances, festivals and concerts are all examples of entertainment that could be happening in your town that you both can enjoy together.

It’s out of the ordinary and normally inexpensive, so why not give it a try?

Picnics:

Picnics are a great way to enjoy the summer weather at all times of the day. All you two need is a packed meal and a place outdoors! Find somewhere secluded and peaceful where you and your partner can enjoy nature and each other.

A great time to picnic is during sunset, which makes this experience even more romantic as the sun goes down. Picnics might seem old-fashioned, but they allow you and your partner exclusive time together in a different atmosphere.

Game Time:

There are a variety of ways you and your partner can have fun and enjoy a little friendly competition! If you’re feeling low-key, raid your old, abandoned stash of board games and invite your sweetheart over for some old school fun. If being indoors isn’t your preference, outside sports like volleyball and basketball can make for a great time together.

Summer break with your partner doesn’t have to be boring just because you don’t have money; it can actually be fun! By having an open mind and experiencing new things, the two of you can have a photo album of summer memories to look back on!

As far as I’m concerned just going for a walk with your girlfriend can be one of the best dates you can have. Yes I know, it sounds like you would have to be 80 years old to enjoy something like this, but that is really not the case. A nice walk in a city park will give you a chance to talk and learn more about each other, and you can do it in a pleasant and relaxed environment.

  • No violent threats, whether it’s against another commenter or a public figure. If you really want Pat Robertson or Keith Olbermann to be capped, then the problem is you, not them.
  • Be nice. No racism, sexism or any other –isms. That includes ironic racism. Trust us, bros, your “satire” isn’t nearly as funny as you think it is.
  • PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY. No yelling. If you’re that angry about something a public figure or commenter has said, take a minute to chill out. Then come back and post.
