Miley Cyrus won Best Video and accepted the award by lighting a J
Miley Cyrus, we get it. You love attention. Actually, I’m starting to think she needs it. I think she is a robot and her ratchet programming is triggered by vast amounts of negative attention. Well, unfortunately I am now contributing to her ratchetness by giving her some more attention. MTV isn’t helping either. The promo for the European version of the VMAs, held in Amsterdam this year, featured the phrase “How Wild Will Miley Get at the EMAs?”
Those expecting her standard disturbing attempt at twerking got just that with her performance of “We Can’t Stop.” Sans foam-fingers and a Beetle-juice impersonating Robin Thicke, this time Miley Cyrus enlisted the help of people dressed as UFOS and midgets in skin-tight bodysuits to participate in her latest stunt.
Alas, that was not enough attention for the Miley-bot. After accepting the Best Video Award at for her single “Wrecking Ball” (where is Kanye when you need him?), Cyrus proceeded to rummage around in her bag and pick up a joint, light it, then take a puff to a response of audience cheers. “I couldn’t fit this award in my bag, but I did find this,” she said.
The toke-up obviously aired during the live show in Europe, but when it was broadcasted in the USA a few hours later, the incident was censored by MTV. MTV was probably avoiding the backlash of sponsors from Miley’s weed smoking, since the FCC doesn’t note smoking as cause for a fine. Marijuana isn’t legal in Amsterdam, but the city is notorious for it’s cafes where weed is freely smoked and sold. Miley Cyrus was seen frequenting said shops while in town for the EMAs, particularly the Greenhouse Coffee Shop in downtown Amsterdam.
We all know Miley Cyrus loves weed, since she felt the need to share the information during her Rolling Stone interview back in September. “I think weed is the best drug on Earth. One time I smoked a joint with peyote in it, and I saw a wolf howling at the moon. Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And, molly too. Those are happy drugs-social drugs.” Enlightening.
Although Miley Cyrus gained most of the spotlight for the EMAs just like the VMAs, there were some other notable winners for the night. I’m not sure why they call it the European Video Music Awards when 95% of the winners are the same American corporate marionettes that are nominated at every award show, but that is another rant for another day. The winners for the night included Bruno Mars for Best Song with “Locked Out of Heaven”, Katy Perry for Best Female, Justin Bieber for Best Male, Beyonce for Best Live and Green Day for Best Rock.
