Sony announces that it has sold over 10 million PS4s since launch 9 months ago, but even Sony doesn’t know why

In talks with Eurogamer, Sony president Shuhei Yoshida confesses that even Sony doesn’t know why the PS4 is selling so well.

“It’s just beyond our imagination. We are so happy. But I for one am a bit nervous because we do not completely understand what’s happening,” said Yoshida.

Sony’s marketing team has recently discovered that many PS4 purchasers didn’t own a PS3 or any last-gen console when they made the investment. Though early success is definitely a good sign, Sony is worried about exhausting core gamers.

“As soon as we see a great sales number, our instinct tells us we should be concerned about future sales, right? Are we exhausting all the core gamers? If we sell this number of units, there are no more consumers we can sell to.”
