FDA no longer recommends Avastin for treatment in breast cancer

Avastin is no longer being approved by the FDA.

The drug, orginially thought to help extend the life of breast cancer patients, has been revoked because it was was not proven to extend lives and has serious side effects.

A patient representative on the FDA’s panel, Natalie Compagni- Portis said, “I think we all wanted Avastin to succeed but the reality is that these studies did not bear out that hope.”

However, the ruling is most certainly going to disappoint women who feel they have no other options left in their fight against breast cancer.

Avastin is also used for treatment of colon cancer and other tumors, so it will still be avaliable on the market.
