Jim Caldwell fired after 2-14 season

Jim Caldwell has been released by the Indianapolis Colts.

NBC Sports reports that the team announced Caldwell’s firing on Tuesday. There will be a press conference addressing the announcement at 4 p.m. EST on Tuesday. You can find out information about streaming the conference here.

As the site points out, it was believed that Caldwell’s relationship with Colts star Peyton Manning would be able to save him, regardless of his 2-14 season. This, apparently, is not the case.

“It didn’t make sense to keep Caldwell without knowing Manning’s status,” the site details. “Perhaps the Colts already know what they will do with Manning, but it’s also possible they honestly don’t know if Manning play again.  If the Colts really want to keep Manning, dropping Caldwell shouldn’t be a deal breaker.”

Manning has been unable to play as he has been recovering from neck surgery.
