Cartoon Network’s popular T.V. program block Toonami will be revived May 26! During a press release by Adult Swim on Wednesday, Cartoon Network in conjunction with cable and satellite networks will be developing a “new original anime programming.”

Toonami’s time bloc has also been confirmed to run weekly, Saturday nights from midnight to 6 a.m. The new Toonami block will showcase many new popular current-day anime along with the famous animes.

Back on April Fools day Cartoon Network played a prank showcasing T.O.M. boarding the ‘Absolution’ to announce that week’s scheduled episode of Bleach. Throughout the night the network played Toonami bumpers featuring Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, YuYu Hakusho, Astro Boy and other animes. Later the network simply stated on Twitter, “Want it back? Let us know. #BringBackToonami.”

Rapper, Richie Branson, Branson a self-proclaimed ‘anime geek’ stated in an interview, “seeing Gundam Wing air on TV for the first time in almost 10 years was quite a surreal moment.” Completely un-amused by the prank pulled by Toonami made his voice known in a rap he made to bring Toonami back on air called “Bring Back Toonami Song.”In the video’s description Branson dubs the song, “The official #bringbacktoonami hip-hop anthem.” His video has hit more than 32,000 viewers.

Toonami had an 11 year run, the program aired from years 1997-2008. The program was known for its action-packed, and often times violent segments.
