Time change: Daylight saving time ends November 6

The time change will cause clocks to go back to standard time

It’s fall, which means that the “fall back” time change is quickly approaching. If you live in a state affected by the time change, note that daylight saving time will end on Sunday, November 6. On that day, standard time will go back into affect.

So why do we have a time change in the first place? As National Geographic details, Benjamin Franklin was the first to suggest the idea of daylight savings. Franklin thought that it would be extremely beneficial for people to better utilize daylight, but it wasn’t until World War I that daylight saving time took affect.

Germany first adopted the time change so that they could better preserve war effort resources, like coal, and other countries followed suit. In 1918, the U.S. standardized daylight saving time, but not all states were required to implement it. Since the end of World War II, the daylight saving time change has been optional for states. Among the states that do not recognize the time change are Arizona and Hawaii.
