A few changes have fans and former actors furious
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are mutant ninja turtles as you can tell by the title, not Teenage Mutant Ninja Alien Turtles. Michael Bay ninja turtles are aliens though. Yes, I said it, aliens. The Transformers director changed a couple important details to the anthropomorphic turtle franchise, and it has fans ticked off.
The actor, Robbie Rist, who did the voice of Michelangelo in the original ninja turtle’s film, told TMZ he was furious about the Michael Bay ninja turtles. “You probably don’t know me but I did some voice work on the first set of movies that you are starting to talk about sodomizing.” Rist added, “I know believing in mutated talking turtles is kinda silly to begin with but am I supposed to be led to believe there are ninjas from another planet? The rape of our childhood memories continues …”
The entire backlash comes from a recent media event where Michael Bay commented on his upcoming changes to the ninja turtles, “These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable,” Bay said.
Rist did have a little reluctance after his comments later telling TMZ that, “Everything I have said here could be off base and wrong … He has made way more money at this than I have.”
Michael Bay wrote on his website, “Fans need to take a breath, and chill.” He added, “They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of ‘Ninja Turtles’ to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”
We will all just have to wait.
