Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in Don Jon, a film about an unforgiving porn addict. Written and directed by Gordon-Levitt, this explicit film has yet to premiere but is already receiving positive reviews.  This film is Gordon-Levitt’s first production and a perfect fit for him as he amazingly disguises a film about porn addiction into a riveting story about intimacy and love.

Gordon- Levitt plays Jon Martello, a Jersey “Guido,” bearing a thick accent, tacky clothes and a cocky attitude. Resembling the comical outtakes of the infamous Jersey Shore series, Don Jon is a comedy that makes light of a very touchy topic, porn. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Tony Danza, and Julianne Moore, Gordon- Levitt assembled an excellent cast for the independent film.

The film follows Jon, who parades around town as a macho, bench-pressing, Italian stud. However, behind closed doors Jon is a masturbating porn addict, who partakes in the act various times per day. So, we repeatedly see Gordon-Levitt willingly, as he did write the script, masturbate to X-rated films.

Meanwhile, Jon falls for Scarlett Johansson’s character, Barbara, who is wrapped into the “happily ever after” scenario thrown down women’s throats. As their relationship develops, Barbara catches wind of Jon’s addiction and thus begins the chore of breaking apart their warped fantasies.

This story does not fall far from reality. Men suffer from intimacy issues and warped expectations of women that media, such as porn, has likely helped alter. And for years, women have been fed Disney fairy tales that insist men are their salvation. Instead, we have porn addicted men and women who wear invisible tiaras. Why not make a film that exaggerates this and leaves audiences laughing hysterically?
