Knoxville native, Jacob Whitesides is turning heads.

Self-made wordsmith, Jacob Whitesides is on the rise following the release of his EP, A Piece of Me this past February.

The Knoxville-bred singer-songwriter has built a social following through grassroots efforts earning himself a steady following of 1.4 million Twitter followers and 281,633 YouTube subscribers.

Whitesides first became interested in music after attending a bluegrass festival in 2008. He then self-taught himself to play guitar and eventually built the courage to sing and write.

Shortly after, he began playing small shows in and around Knoxville and posting covers of Top 40 hits on his YouTube channel where he sparked interested in fans around the world; the beginning of his dedicated following.

It wasn’t long after that he auditioned for Fox’s reality singing show, The X Factor in 2012 where he was exposed to a national audience, growing his following after making the cut after the show’s second season.

Two years later, Whitesides released his first EP, 3 AM. The EP received positive reviews, peaking at No. 26 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart. 3 AM included cover songs by John Legend, Plain White T’s and John Mayer among others.

Album Review: Let The Road by Rixton

Scooter Braun certainly has an ear for talent and he couldn’t have made a better choice than to take British band Rixton under his wing.

Made up of Jake Roche (vocalist/guitarist), Charley Bagnall (vocals/lead guitar), Danny Wilkin (vocals/bass/keys) and Lewi Morgan (vocals/drums), Rixton has won over our hearts (even the broken ones).

The quartet signed to School Boy/Interscope Records have delivered two successful EPs, toured with Justin Bieber and sold-out their own mini tour last year. It just so happens that 2015 is already shaping up to me a stellar year for Rixton who released their debut record, Let The Road earlier this week and are currently out on the road with Ariana Grande on her Honeymoon Tour.

Let The Road features 12 tracks, with the title track opening the album delivering impressive harmonies from the beginning. Their stand-out harmonies blend together effortlessly and beautifully on this track with a drum kick that graces the end of the song giving it a reminiscent vibe.

“Wait On Me” was the album’s second single that quickly made its way to the Billboard Top 40 chart. With a reggae and R&B fusion, the song carries a friendly, sing-a-long chorus.

“Appreciated” is slower paced with gentle guitar strumming introducing the track with delicate whistling and heartwarming lyrics like, “Cause it’s you who somehow is always the first to take care of me at my worst.” Though not a radio friendly hit, “Appreciated” is sure to be a fan favorite because of its meaningful message.

“Me and My Broken Heart” is one of the most reminiscent tracks from the album. The radio friendly track about a relationship gone bad with a calling to find a healthy and real love, “Me and My Broken Heart” captivates anyone flipping through radio channels with its delicate piano introduction and Jake Roche’s impressive vocals. Its diverse instrumentation makes it an easy listen through for anyone new to Rixton.

“Hotel Ceiling” is undoubtedly the darkest song on the album with a mysterious vibe throughout the song that keeps you on your toes. “Hotel Ceiling” tells the story of losing a loved one and trying to face the news and hold onto the sweet feeling of that person still being around. The accompanying music video for the track is equally as haunting but worth the watch.

Overall, Let The Road is a milestone for Rixton who, since their start, make a clear-cut statement about who they are sonically with their debut LP. Together they effortlessly blend many different genres with stellar vocals that make each track its own but also transition easily into one another with no hiccups along the way.

Former Steel Magnolia Singer Meghan Linsey Auditions For The Voice

Former Steel Magnolia singer, Meghan Linsey decided to embark on a solo career after country duo, Steel Magnolia parted ways.

Linsey parted ways with singing partner/ex-finace Joshua Scott Jones after he was admitted to a rehabilitation facility to treat drug and alcohol abuse which eventually led to the duo separating both personally and professionally.

Since their split, the two have embarked on solo careers and Linsey recently auditioned for NBC’s The Voice, getting three of the four judges to turn their chairs with her performance of “Love Hurts,” a Nazareth hit.

Judges Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Pharrell all spun their chairs around for the powerhouse vocalist that graced the stage during blind auditions that aired on Feb. 23. while Blake Shelton kept his back turned on his former tourmate.

Levine attacked Shelton for keeping not turning his chair for the songstress he once toured with back when Linsey made up half of Steel Magnolia.

“Now I bet you feel extra bad, huh?” Levine told Shelton.

Despite being begged by both Levine and Aguilera to join either of their teams, Linsey chose Pharrell as her mentor this season.

Steel Magnolia first caught a break when they won their season on CMT’s reality show, Can You Duet? The two went on to release their self-titled album in 2011 before splitting just months later.

It will be interesting to see how Linsey performs throughout the rest of the season with Pharrell as her mentor and an already impressive musical track record behind her.

Zedd and Selena Gomez Release "I Want You To Know" Collaboration

Zedd and Selena Gomez released their long-awaited collaborative effort, “I Want You To Know.”

The track is the confirmed single from Zedd’s forthcoming second studio album which will release later this year via Interscope following 2012’s Clarity.

The track produced and co-written by Zedd and Gomez is a love anthem inspired by their rumored relationship in which Gomez sings, “I want you to know that I’m all yours.”

The EDM track carries an unforgettable beat with an established climax of excitement that eventually explodes into uncontrollable dance vibes, perhaps one of Zedd’s best productions to date.

Gomez lends vocals to the track and a pop infusion that makes it a radio friendly song that is sure to send it soaring.

“I Want You To Know” is a sure fire success compared to Gomez’s past attempts at uptempo dance tracks on songs like “Come & Get It” and “Slow Down.”

It’s safe to say that the single, already confirmed on Zedd’s forthcoming album will also find it’s place on Gomez’s next project and be reminiscent among radio airwaves.

Lady Gaga Steals The Spotlight at 2015 Oscars

Anytime Lady Gaga makes an appearance she makes sure to steal the spotlight, usually with her obscene wardrobe choices when she takes the red carpet. At this weekend’s Oscars, it was no different, only this time it was for good reason.

Lady Gaga appeared at the Oscars in a relaxed but elegant demure bridal-style gown unusual for the showstopper who’s known for her wild dress choices.

Aside from stepping out in elegance opposed to extremity, Lady Gaga shocked viewers near and far with a stunning performance of her “The Sound of Music” tribute at the 2015 Oscars.

Gaga nailed every song with her powerhouse vocals including the title track, “My Favorite Things” and “Climb Every Mountain.” Her performance sent media buzzing about her incredible performance where she showcased impressive vocals that brought the audience to their feet.

Following her performance, Gaga was embraced by Julie Andrews, 79, who played Maria von Trapp, as she came out to present an award, applauding Gaga for her immaculate performance.

“The Sound of Music” which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year is a classic musical and film that tells the story of a nun that becomes a nanny to care for seven children and later falls in love with their father.
