Rooney Mara dishes about her piercings for the role

Rooney Mara is quickly becoming a household name thanks to her buzzworthy performance in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” Her transformation from Rooney Mara to Lisbeth Sander, wasn’t an easy task, although Mara only considers it a costume.

The New York Daily News reports that Mara bleached her eyebrows, got numerous body piercings and cut off most of her hair in order to get into the role. For Mara, though, it wasn’t a big deal, even the nipple piercing.

“I’m naked quite a lot in the movie, and I thought, she has it in the book, and she should have it (in the movie),” Mara says. “Because of all the tattoos and makeup and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel sort of like I was in costume, even if I was naked. It just felt like a good one to get – a necessary one to get.”

Mara also said that she quickly became comfortable being naked in front of the camera.

“Nudity is such a huge part of the character in the book, so I never thought twice about it,” Mara says. “There was no time for hesitation. I didn’t have time to second-guess anything or be scared; I just showed up and was comfortable.”
