MLB Considers Alcohol Ban on Clubhouses

MLB talks drinking ban after players admit drinking during games

MLB officials announced Sunday that they are considering banning alcohol in team clubhouses.

Joe Torre, MLB executive vice president of baseball operations, told reporters before Game 4 of the World Series that the league is considering banning alcohol in the clubhouses after several Boston Red Sox players told reporters they drank on the job.

Several Red Sox starting pitchers, including Jon Lester, told reporters they would drink beer in the clubhouse during games. According to USA Today, Lester said they were never intoxicated, but would drink beer and have chicken delivered.

Less than half of the MLB’s 30 teams allow alcohol in the clubhouses. Several teams, such as the Arizona Diamondbacks, have already banned alcohol in their clubhouse. But it is common to see players drinking a beer after the game or on a team flight.

Torre said he plans to look into Red Sox players drinking on the job. “I know I have some plans to talk to some people.”

Torre told reporters that if an alcohol ban did come into play, it would be because of the reflection alcohol has on the league. “We’re role models, or we should be role models for the youngsters and how they behave,” said Torre.

McDonald's Brings Back the McRib

McDonald’s brings back a favorite sandwich for a limited time

McDonald’s plans to announce Monday that the McRib, usually available when individual restaurants feel like making it, will be sold at all U.S. locations through Nov. 14.

The barbecue sandwich made without bones has been one of McDonald’s more popular features. A Facebook group called, “Bring Back the McRib!!!” as well as Twitter tags and blog posts have been devoted to the return of the McRib.

The boneless patty is dressed with onions, pickle slices and barbecue sauce. It was introduced nationally in 1982, after the company’s then-president decided to add pork to the menu.

The sandwich contains 500 calories and 26 grams of fat, only slightly trimmer than the restaurant’s Big Mac, which has 540 calories and 29 grams of fat. While it is usually up to the local franchise owner to decide whether or not to sell the McRib, last November marked the first time in 16 years that McDonald’s made the sandwich available at every U.S. restaurant for about three weeks.

It is not yet known if the McRib will make a comeback next year.

Gadhafi's sons speak out

Gadhafi’s heir apparent speaks out against his death

Saif Al-Islam Gadhafi, son and heir apparent to the fallen Libyan dictator, Moammar Gadhafi, is still trying to rebuild his father’s glory.

Saif, the only one of Gadhafi’s eight children that is still unaccounted for, was to succeed his father and carry on the dynasty. According to ABC News, although Libya’s interim government had said they captured him this weekend, at the very same time Saif appeared on Syrian television.

“We continue our resistance. I’m in Libya, alive, free, and intend to go to the very end and exact revenge, Saif Al-Islam Gadhafi was heard saying on Syrian television. “I say go to hell, you rats and NATO behind you. This is our country, we live in it, and we die in it and we are continuing the struggle.”

It is not yet clear if the audio-only message was broadcasted live or if it was a recording. As the search for Saif intensifies, his brother Saadi Gadhafi, who escaped the country in September, has public lashed out about the death of his father and brother.

The United Nations’ High Commission for Human Rights has begun an investigation into the events surrounding the death of Gadhafi after video footage of his death surfaced.

According to ABC News, all of the dictator’s children lived as lavishly and ruthlessly as their father. Three of his children were killed in the revolution. Three more, including Gadhafi’s only daughter, are living in exile in Algeria with Gadhafi’s wife Safia.

In Libya there is little sympathy for anyone in the Gadhafi family.

Millions of bees escape after Utah truck crash

25 million bees escape after Utah semi overturns

A truck hauling beehives overturned in southern Utah Sunday and authorities are attempting to capture the bees that escaped.

The Deseret News says the tractor-trailer contained an estimated 25 million bees when it rolled in a construction zone on Interstate 15 Sunday evening. Although all of the 460 hives were contained by a net over the truck’s trailer, the bees escaped.

There is currently no information on how many bees escaped but authorities are working with the Utah Department of Agriculture to determine how to best capture or eliminate the bees.

According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, several people were stung, including the truck driver and his wife, a police officer, a news reporter and several others who tried to help after the crash. The semi driver and his wife were taken to a local hospital for treatment for injuries caused by the bees. Authorities are recommending drivers in the area to keep windows closed for the time being.

Larry Lewis, a spokesman for the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food, explained that the bees would most likely try to stay close to their queens. “When this has happened before, they try to hive up or swarm up around the queen,” Lewis said. He was unsure of whether or not the queen bees in the crash had stayed in their hives or escaped like the others.

Southbound lanes on I-15 were closed for several hours Sunday night.

Madonna's brother is homeless

Superstar’s older brother homeless, living under bridge in Michigan

To say that Anthony Ciccone’s digs are more modest than his younger sister Madonna’s would definitely be an understatement.

The 55-year-old brother of the Material Girl revealed in an interview with the Michigan Messenger that he has been living under a bridge in Traverse City, Mi., for the last year.

“My family turned their back on me, basically, when I was having a hard time,” said Ciccone. “You think I haven’t answered this kind of question a bazillion times – why my sister is a multibazillionaire, and I’m homeless on the street? Never say never. This could happen to anybody.”

Ciccone was let go from his job at his father winery, which sells “Maddona Wine” over a year ago. Ciccone now collects cans for money and relies on churches for food.

Meanwhile his superstar sister has homes in London, Los Angeles, and a newly-renovated $32 million townhouse in New York City.

President Obama disapproves of daughters watching Kardashians

Obama doesn’t want his daughters watching the reality stars, says First Lady

President Barack Obama is not a fan of the Kardashians—especially when it comes to his daughters watching their reality shows.

According to the New York Daily News, First Lady Michelle Obama said that her husband doesn’t like their children watching any programs starring the reality show family.
Mrs. Obama said she is more willing to allow Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10, to watch the show if they take something positive away from them. “But I sort of feel like if we’re talking about it, and I’m more concerned with how they take it in—what did you learn when you watched that. And if they’re learning the right lesions, like ‘that was crazy,’ then I’m OK,” Obama told reporters.

The First Lady also added that the girls are not allowed to watch television or be on the computer during the week unless it’s for school.

What do the Kardashians say about all of this? They have been strong supporters of Obama since he took office. Khloe Kardashian met the President last January after her NBA star husband Lamar Odom and his Los Angeles Lakers won the 2009 NBA championship. “Such an amazing day,” she tweeted, “I just met obama with my husband!:)”

Recently married Kim Kardashian told CNN last year that Obama was the first presidential candidate that got her “motivated enough to vote.”

British duo Graffiti6 definitely worth a listen

Graffiti6 impresses with “Free”

If you’re looking for new music or bands, an up-and-coming band to get into is Graffiti6. The British music duo of Tommy Danvers and Jamie Scott has gained popularity in the U.K. and is definitely worth giving a listen.

Multi-instrumentalist, U.K. writer/producer/DJ Tommy Danvers (who goes by the name TommyD) fell in love with hip-hop at age 17 and has since arranged and orchestrated concerts and recordings for artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Adele and Beyonce, to name a few.

Singer/songwriter Jamie Scott, who signed his first publishing deal at 20, already had several years experience as a solo artist. Rather than repackage Scott’s solo album, however, Scott and TommyD decided to start fresh and create all new music. Graffiti6, a name chosen by Scott and TommyD pointing randomly to words in a book, was born in 2009.

Graffiti6’s best feature is its musical variation. Every song has a different feel – its debut album Colours, has been called “an uncategorizable mélange of pop, psychedelia, R&B, and British Northern Soul.” “For me, the unexpectedness of the sound is the whole point,” Scott said on the band’s website. While each song is a surprise, they all have strong emotional connections. “I always right about things that have happened to me or I can immediately relate to,” Scott said in an interview.

The two-man band’s “Free” EP was released on October 11. While my favorite was the title song, “Free,” there is a song on this album for everyone. Graffiti6 encompassed a variation of emotions and musical genres in this seven track album. Graffiti6 has made a new and unique approach to the music industry.

Graffiti6’s songs have been featured on popular shows such as MTV’s Teen Wolf and VH1’s Basketball Wives. Graffiti6 begins its U.S. tour at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas on Nov. 30. They will perform 15 more shows across the country, ending in Chicago on Dec. 22.

Bengals trade QB Carson Palmer to Raiders

Palmer traded to Oakland for two draft picks

The Cinncinati Bengals traded their franchise quarterback to the Oakland Raiders Tuesday.

The Bengals ended nine months of uncertainty Tuesday when they sent Carson Palmer to the Raiders for a pair of draft picks. Palmer, 31, told the Bengals in January that he would not play for them again and he wanted a trade, a request team owner Mike Brown stubbornly refused.

Tuesday Brown apparently changed his mind and traded Palmer for first-round and second-round picks, a better deal than was expected for the quarterback. The trade was a last minute move for the Raiders, whose quarterback, Jason Campbell, broke his collarbone in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Campbell had surgery Monday, and while he is confident he’ll return within six weeks, others worry he’s out for the season. Oakland Coach Hue Jackson acted fast to find a replacement.

“I went to bed at 10:30 a retired football player and got a text message at 4 a.m. and was told to get on a plane to Oakland…So it’s been a whirlwind,” said Palmer, according to The L.A. Times.

The Raiders are set to play the Kansas City Chiefs at home this Sunday.
