Lifetime plans to remake “Steel Magnolias” with an all-black cast

Lifetime is planning on remaking “Steel Magnolias,” a 1989 movie about a group of close friends in Louisiana, with an all-black cast.

Being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, there is no word about who will be selected for the cast. Although since the announcement of the remake, the Internet has been flooded with rumors from Oprah Winfrey to Halle Berry.

The original cast included Dolly Parton, Sally Fields, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts. 

The new movie will be once again set in Louisiana and will explore trials and tribulations of women today.

Given the recent trend of remaking 8’0s classics, such as “Footloose” and “Dirty Dancing,” how do you feel about the trend? What movie would you like to see remade?
