Susan G. Komen Foundation reverses decision against Planned Parenthood.

After a national uproar, the Komen Foundation has changed their mind about their decision on Planned Parenthood.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has reversed their decision to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood.
Earlier this week, we mentioned Komen’s decision, and there was much backlash against the organization about it.

President and founder Nancy Brinker released in a statement, “We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.”

She added, “Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation.”

The President of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards was pleased with the change in decision, stating, “In recent weeks, the treasured relationship between the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation and Planned Parenthood has been challenged, and we are now heartened that we can continue to work in partnership toward our shared commitment to breast health for the most underserved women.”

Planned Parenthood affiliates received around $680,000 per year from Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The controversy has given Planned Parenthood needed support from all over the country.

Roseanne Barr for President?

Roseanne Barr has announced her aspirations to be the Green Party’s nominee

Roseanne Barr is looking to be the Green Party’s candidate.

Known for her role on her sitcom, “Roseanne,” which highlighted a blue collar-family, she wants to alert the news media that their real focus should be working-class families.

According to AP, Barr wrote on her candidate questionnaire, “I will barnstorm American living rooms. Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they, will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election.”

When asked about which wing she sided with, Barr said, “I am no wing. I am an American. I believe in people-ism. Solutions that work for everybody.”

No word if her aspirations to the White House will hinder her partnership with NBC for a new show titled, “Downwardly Mobile.”

The Green Party will select their nominee in July during their convention in Baltimore.

Paula Abdul fired from show X Factor

Allegedly, Abdul was fired because she was “too soft.”

Host Steve Jones, Judge Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were fired from their “The X- Factor” jobs, but most surprising was Abdul’s departure.

Tuesday she released a statement saying she understood, “how business decisions often times override personal considerations.”

A major Fox source explains how show producers and the Fox network looked over the first season and decided that Abdul was “too soft” to compete with others on the panel.

Rumors say that in contrast to Simon Cowell, the show’s creator, and Abdul made it clear that they were still close, there are bitter feelings between the two.

An “X” staff member said, “The parting was anything but amicable and there were a lot of angry words.”

No word on who the two new judges will be, though rumors like Mariah Carey and Beyonce have been floating around.

Pfizer: facing future lawsuits?

Since announcements of defective birth control pills arose, some are wondering if lawsuits will follow

Pharmaceutical company Pfizer recalled over a million oral contraceptive packets of Lo/Ovral, Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradioland Tuesday because the pills may not be strong enough to protect against pregnancy, according to Fox News.

This recall has many wondering about future lawsuits.

Pfizer noted, in a statement, that consumers who have been using the less potent birth control should immediately begin to use a non-hormonal form of contraception. Consumers should also contact their doctors and return the faulty prescriptions back to their pharmacies.

Greg Gianforcaro, a litigation attorney from New Jersey, feels these defective pills could potentially put the Pfizer out of business.

Gianforcaro highlights that cases involving the weak contraceptive could be compared to lawsuits that have been filed in the past concerning botched vasectomy surgeries.

“I don’t anticipate that happening here, but there’s always the possibility,” Gianforcaro stated.

A spokeswoman for Pfizer said that they were currently looking into the matter.

Summerfest Giveaway brings high traffic to website

In honor of the 45th anniversary of Summerfest, MWF host a ticket giveaway not knowing that their website wouldn’t be able to hold the traffic.

Milwaukee’s annual Summerfest is a popular event during the summer. To celebrate the 45th anniversary, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. thought it would be a good idea to have a large ticket giveway starting at noon Wednesday.

What they were not prepared for was the mass amount of traffic to their website.

The offer: Win one of 45,000 free Summerfest General Admission Opening Day tickets for 45 hours. MWF figured that either the 45,000 tickets would sell out or the 45 hours would pass by.

Most people received a white screen saying “the service is unavailable.”

Those who did manage to get a ticket, only receive one General Admission Opening Day ticket for Wednesday, June 27.

Confirmed Bands for this year’s Summerfest include: Lady Antebellum, Daris Rucker, Thompson Square, Neil Diamond and Zac Brown Band.

Black History Month 2012

This year’s theme honors black women and what they have done to help shape the United States.

It’s February 1st, which marks the beginning of Black History Month.
Started in February of 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, the event began as a week long celebration.

February was selected because of the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln. The popularity of this week grew as the decades past and in 1976, the week was extended to a month.

This year’s theme, selected by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History focuses on “honoring African American women and the myriad of roles they played in the shaping of our nation.”

A lot of controversy surrounds the month. Some people feel that acknowledging African Americans contributions should not be reduced to simply one month.

Actor Morgan Freeman told 60 Minutes years ago, “You’re going to relegate my history to a month. Which one is white history month?”

Edna Greene Medford, chair of Howard University’s history department said,
“Carter G. Woodson.. hadn’t planned for this celebration to be just the month of February,” she said. “It was the beginning of recognizing the contributions and role of African Americans in history. Through that, he hoped that African-American history would be incorporated sufficiently into American history.”

Whether you agree with the celebration or not, there are plenty of ways to contribute or get active in the month’s festivities.

PBS is premiering a documentary called End Black History Month by filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghman. Most cities have events that you can attend like the Library of Congress’s Calendar.
