While the position you’re applying for is a news position, you needn’t worry about submitting a news piece as your writing sample. You may submit an academic essay, a piece you wrote for your school paper, or even a url to your site or blog. Whatever you choose to submit, make sure it illustrates your strengths and skills as a writer.
