Bonnaroo 2010 lineup announced through social networking

The 2010 line-up for stalwart festival Bonnaroo has been revealed through social networking, including MySpace

Jon Graef

Update: A very funny anti-Bonnaroo sentiment, courtesy of 1000timesyes: “Stop grubbing for traffic like some 15-year-old Perez wannabe and tell us who’s playing your fucking mudfest, for fucks sake.”

On a similar notes: @codename646: Sarah Palin could scribble the lineup on her hand faster than this shit #bonnaroo
@LauraBraun So, every 5 minutes we’ll get to know an artist who has already been announced? #bonnaroo
@Clonts the 2011 @bonnaroo lineup will be announced over AOL Instant Messenger.
@Hmtigert The #Bonaroo line-up announcement is like signing-day for college fball. Can we please move a little faster @Bonnaroo?

Update #2: Grunge pioneers The Melvins, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, Bassnecter, and Carolina Chocolate Drops are set to play as well

Update #3: Buzzing indie-rockers The National are set to play Bonnaroo 2010

Update #3:: Ingrid Michaelson, Aeroplane and The XX set to join Bonnaroo 2010.

Update #4: Last one. We here at College News have other things to take care of. So here’s your last mega update: Regina Spektor, Mayer Hawthorne & the County, The Disco Biscuits, Wale, Local Natives, Japandroids, Norah Jones, Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, She and Him (in a rather cute and cryptic update), GWAR and Jimmy Cliff. Full lineup posted tomorrow.

If nothing else, credit the arrangers of the Bonnaroo festival this: They’ve hit upon a novel way to announce the lineup for the 2010 edition of their venerable festival. As announced on the Bonnaroo MySpace page, the artists playing Bonnaroo 2010 will themselves use a myriad of social networking and Web sites to slowly, but surely, reveal the Bonnaroo lineup for 2010.

Here’s the announcement in full, as it appears on the Bonnaroo MySpace page:

“This year’s Bonnaroo line up is in the hands of the artists! Throughout the day, artists will be using social media, their websites, email lists and other means of their choosing to announce that they will be playing the 2010 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Starting at noon eastern time, [festival organizers] will begin to compile the line up as the artists make their announcements.”

The announcement then continues by reminding music festival fans that the tickets will go on sale at the same time as the lineup announcement. That’s in about 15 minutes, as of this writing. So far, according to a wide variety of Tweets, the acts either already confirmed or expected-to-be-confirmed are as follows, according to a Bonnaroo Message Board:

Weezer
Phoenix
Blues Traveler
OK Go
Baroness
John Fogerty
The Flaming Lips
Jeff Beck
Medeski Martin & Wood
ISIS
Punch Brothers
The Avett Brothers
Cross Canadian Ragweed
311
Bassnectar
Neon Indian
Chromeo w/ Daryl Hall
Big Sams Fnky Nation
The Asterisk
The Black Keys
The Constellations

The 2010 Bonnaroo music and arts festival is set to take place June 10-13th at Manchester, TN. Follow this space for more Bonnaroo 2010 updates.

Our Take

MySpace? What are we, pedophiles? This seems like an awfully contrived way to announce the lineup, and comes across more as a traffic grub than as a forward-thinking way to engage the festival’s fans with its artists. As one tweeter pointed out, the MySpace page is announcing artists who’ve already been announced, making this whole endeavor seemingly redundant.
