Fashion Forecast: Thanksgiving holiday

Headed home for the holidays? Strut your stuff with these inexpensive additions to your wardrobe

Paige Maynard

Now that Halloween has come and gone, it is time to start planning (read: dreading) the rest of the holiday season. So, you are going home for Thanksgiving to indulge in some turkey, football and family gossip--but what are you going to wear?

Regardless of what part of the country you are celebrating your holiday, these items and tips will keep you looking amazing even after your precious little cousin flings his cranberry sauce across the room for the fourth time.

For a feminine, wholesome look, invest in blush tones. Feminine peach colored slip dresses and champagne colored tops trimmed with lace are the perfect pieces to add to your closet this season. Pair them with rugged boots for a dressed down look, or a high-waisted skirt and pearls to impress your grandmother. How ever did you wear blue jeans in the first place, my dear?

The colder the weather gets, the darker the makeup and nail polish shades go. To spice up your makeup routine, ditch your classic peach powder blush and try a clay colored hue high on your cheekbones. Channel your inner Madonna circa Like a Virgin. Trust me, it will make you feel shiny and new.

Want a slightly edgier look without spending a lot of money? Instead of leaving your curls as they are in the morning, brush through them. Big, wild curls are showing up on runways everywhere, and now is your chance to bring it home with you. Leave them wild or pin them back, either way, this is a look sure to turn heads. For an added autumn punch, pair your big hair with a sexy dark lip. Red wine stained lips were so 2008, anyway.

I dare you to invest in a strong-shouldered jacket. Your family may confuse you for a linebacker or maybe even a cast member of the “Golden Girls,” but shoulder pads are an instant waist slimmer. With all that extra room in your waist region, go ahead; eat that second (or third, no judgments) piece of pumpkin pie.

You see, with a few small adjustments to your wardrobe or getting ready routine, you can spice up the Thanksgiving holiday without breaking the bank. But what about all those cocktail parties for Christmas and New Year’s Eve? Stay tuned for more effortless and edgy wardrobe enhancers.
