Obama kills fly during TV interview; President “got the sucker”

A persistent fly circling the heads of CNBC's John Harwood and the President dies by the deft left hand of Obama

Lauren Smith

One pesky fly didn’t stand a chance against the deft President Barack Obama during an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood.

The video of Obama and the fly has been circulating across the web accumulating hundreds of witty comments including jokes of it being a “stunt fly” and other commenters calling the act humane, insisting that the fly died instantly.

One video compared Obama’s swift action to Daniel and Mr. Miyagi’s fly-catching chop stick skills in The Karate Kid.

One commenter on the Daily Kos posted a video from Obama’s visit to Illinois where he answers the question of if he ever blows up or gets angry.  He describes his self as being “even-tempered” and while admitting he “does get angry” he explains that he tends to have a “controlled anger.”

With the “Obama kills fly” video particularly showing evidence of the President’s controlled anger, it might be a subtle foreshadowing of the calm-natured president’s quick-thinking actions over the next four years.

President Obama gave what Harwood describes as “the most persistent fly” a clear verbal warning of “Hey!  Get out of here,” before taking further action.

Obama first attempted to get right back to the interview, but when cameras cut to the dead fly he looked down at it and said, “That was pretty impressive wasn’t it…I got the sucker!”

After the White House interview, Obama bent over, picked the fly right up off the carpet with a napkin and threw it away properly.  The president told Harwood that he picks up after himself.  Harwood joked to CNBC later that “I guess he does that after the dog too!”

Harwood says to CNBC later that the victory was probably Obama’s “make my day moment with that fly” admitting its apparent effectiveness.

Our Take:

You have to admit it… that was a pretty awesome ninja move from President Barak Obama!  It would probably make my day too if I was able to kill a fly with one swift move of the hand.

President Obama should start practicing with his chopsticks for his next interview.  Boy, wouldn’t that be quite the breaking story for odd news!  Can’t you just see it now?  President Obama captures fly between chopsticks!  I bet the fly-lovers out there would prefer fly-catching to fly-swatting.

President Obama Swats Fly & makes headline news?
you’ve got to be kidding!

“Obama kills fly” and keeps calm - and this is “evidence of the President’s controlled anger” - let’s wait and see how cool, calm, and collected he is if something barbaric like “flying planes into the World Trade Centers”
happens - then we can talk “cool and calm”.

The fly episode is NOT a “subtle foreshadowing of the calm-natured president’s quick-thinking actions over the next four years.” - it’s a knee-jerk reaction.

It’s a sad slow news day!

Let’s see if Letterman jumps on this one!
