In the guise of the average Facebook photo, Meghan McCain’s tank top twitter pic is a classic nontroversy. We have all taken pictures that we are not to proud of, by which I mean that we have all seen pictures of us on Facebook that maybe we do not actually remember posing for. But the proof is there. We apparently were present. It’s those pictures of the night before that you usually try to untag yourself from quickly the morning after.
For many of us this process goes without being noticed, you may get the occasional response from an obnoxious friend on how funny you look passed out with writing on your face, or why are you the random creep in the background, or even why are you kissing a life size cut out of Chuck Norris? Overall, it’s no big deal, these pictures might be evidence of your alter ego and of course they are embarrassing, but their just pictures.
However, I guess when you are the daughter of 2008 presidential candidate Senator John McCain, your pictures won’t just be for the laughter of your friends but something for the whole world to criticize.
It started on Wednesday when Meghan McCain posted a photo of herself on Twitter wearing a low cut tank top and holding a copy of a biography of Andy Warhol. With the tank top twitter pic, McCain posted a self-deprecating remark: “My ‘spontaneous’ night in is my Andy Warhol biography and takeout....I’m getting old.”
Apparently, some boobs + Andy Warhol = nationwide controversy. Naturally, McCain said she had no idea that a photo of her in pajamas would be criticized by some of her 60,000 followers.
McCain took no time in responding and twittered, “So I took a fun picture not thinking anything about what I was wearing but apparently anything other than a pantsuit I am a slut.”
Perhaps it is not the fact that she can’t wear anything but a pantsuit, but the fact that her rather large breasts seem to be make up majority of the photo. Whatever happened to sleeping in over-sized t-shirts and boxers?
But still, with all the shocking photos that are out there, like the previously mentioned make-out photo with a Chuck Norris cutout, why are we really wasting our time dwelling what is essentially a photo of a woman holding a book?
I realize her breasts are more of a controversy than the “issues” with our “economy”, but come on. Really? Shes holding a book, who cares? Its not like shes sliding down a pole with dollar bills coming out of her underwear. Move on America, we have more important problems to deal with.
I have not completely forgotten that she is the daughter of a very well-know senator, but does the fact that she put this picture up have anything to do with the issues her father is rallying for? How many politicians children are in the news for doing something scandalous?
But no need to worry, we can all rest assure, McCain’s threats to delete her Twitter account all together are false. Though she stated she might delete her account due to the service becoming a “vessel for harassment”, she Tweeted that:
I would like to thank my family and friends for their support. This has been an embarrassing experience but also a learning one. I will not be deleting my twitter account but I will be more careful in the future about my use with the medium.”
Wow. That was a close one.
Before making her momentous decision not to delete her Twitter account, McCain chose to apologize and be done with it.
“I do want to apologize to anyone that was offended by my twitpic, I have clearly made a huge mistake and am sorry 2 those that are offended.”
In a world of chaos, with the economy and the conflicts in the Middle East, it is no surprise that a lady in her pajamas such a pressing issue. Well done, America.
