Is your PC ready for Aliens vs. Predator?

Official PC specs released by Sega for the upcoming Aliens vs. Predator video game

Mark Fujii

If you are planning on grabbing Aliens vs Predator for PC when the game launches on February 16, 2010, you better make sure your gaming rig is up to snuff by checking out the official specs below supplied by Sega.

The minimum specs are incredibly low, but keep in mind those pieces were considered “good” close to five years ago. Instead, turn your attention to the recommended specs, which are still completely reasonable.

If you’ve been even mildly interested in playing video games on PC over the last few years, your processor and graphics card should easily meet the requirement. 2 gigabytes of RAM is pretty standard nowadays too, meaning that even if you bought your PC at Best Buy sometime recently, you should be good to go.

Aliens vs. Predator is being developed by Rebellion Games, the team behind the 1999 PC classic Aliens versus Predator (note the abbreviation. Key difference.)

Like the movies and comic books of the same name, Alien vs. Predators will pit the murderous, agile Aliens, the technologically advanced Predators and the heavily armed Colonial Marines against one another in an inter-species war. Each race will have their own single player campaign, and a multiplayer mode is also planned as well.

While the movie series Aliens vs Predator has been almost universally recognized as being terrible (the first and second film have an accumulative Metacritic rating of 29%), their video game counterparts have usually fared substantially better. The 1999 Aliens versus Predator received a 8/10 by IGN, and Aliens versus Predator 2 currently holds a Metacritic score of 85%.

Aliens vs Predator is set to be released on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 16, 2010 in North America and February 19, 2010 in Europe.

Minimum Requirements:
Windows 7/ XP/Vista 1 GB System RAM (XP)/ 2 GB System RAM (Vista) 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4/Athlon 64 3000+ or equivalent processor DirectX 9.0c compliant video card with 128 MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better, ATI X1600 or better)

Recommended Requirements:
Windows 7/ XP/Vista Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 or equivalent processor 2 GB System RAM DirectX 9.0c compliant video card with 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA 8800 series, ATI HD2900 PRO or better)

Our Take

Rebellion has been on a cold steak with some truly terrible video games (like the disastrous Shellshock 2 and Rogue Warrior) but let’s hope they can redeem themselves with Aliens vs Predator. The last one for PC was amazing--we can only pray that they can somehow pull out of this slump and deliver a quality product.
