Strangeness often equates to intrigue. Watching commercials grow stranger to capture the interest of the jaded television watcher, it takes a very weird ad to make the average television viewer pause. Yet when Alec Baldwin’s alien tail flips through his hair as he speaks of lusting for mushy, human brains, the attention is captured.
Hulu’s clever ad campaign makes you at least visit the sight once. And then, it is too late for you. Not that your brain melts, but you have 24 hour access to your favorite shows.
At first you might think why do I need Hulu? Television is not hiding. It is found at home on your big screen, on your computer at the network’s sites, on youtube before it is removed for copyright issues, and for most, on DVR’s. Yet Hulu brings your favorite shows to your computer anytime. But is it too much? Yes, of course it is. So what should convince you that Hulu is a good thing besides the aliens and your rotting brain? Hulu has episodes of classic television shows as well!
Magnum P.I. makes Hulu a wonderful idea. Tom Selleck is a private detective in Hawaii. Selleck plays a caring, intelligent, heroic private detective… and he wears really short shorts. Which seems like a bad idea except he is a tan, Greek like God… Anyway, the important thing is the character is caring and intelligent. Now I highly suggest Magnum before Hulu starts charging. The thing is the old shows are where I would guess Hulu will make their money. How can they get anyone to pay for shows they already pay for at home? Now some seriously addicted couch potatoes will like to take their shows with them everywhere, but just speculating, it seems access to these classic shows would be the main source of income. Now maybe Magnum isn’t your style. Search for some classic t.v. that is right for you. There is another scenario in which Hulu is ideal.
Everyone in the office is talking about the latest episode of House. For whatever reason, you just didn’t start watching the show in the beginning. And now you’re so far behind, you can’t start middle of the 800th season. You might not even know why House has a limp and walks with a cane? Hulu is a good way to go back to the beginning and make some sense of these epic shows that you really didn’t think would take off so you didn’t watch, and now you look back with regret.
Definitely take the risk! Watch Hulu for free while you still can. And if this really is some evil alien plot, when they suck your brain out with a straw, you will have a smile on your face!
Our take:
Seriously, the intelligent side of my self says this 24 hour, available anywhere access to television is a bad idea. Not to mention our societies’ social skills seem to be declining since we no longer have to interact with anyone without some technology between us. And now when you’re out you don’t have to make eye contact with anyone. Yet the idea of being able to see watch those classic shows or feeding my Project Runway addiction makes me very happy.
