Chegg and Waterfall Mobile team up for textbook rental

The textbook rental site and mobile service join to offer students exclusive deals

Janelle Vreeland

Students, take note—Chegg and Waterfall Mobile are giving you the chance to rent textbooks in an entirely innovative way.

The online textbook rental service teamed up with the mobile web service in late 2009 in order to try and allow students to both search for and rent textbooks on their cell phones. By simply searching by title or ISBN number, students are able to check whether or not books are available to Chegg users, and for what price.

And, with the added convenience of being able to check on the mobile web, students are able to compare prices without even leaving the bookstore.

The goal of Chegg’s campaign was to gain a larger consumer base and make textbooks available to more students across the country, and the release of the campaign’s case study has proved the campaign’s effectiveness and the company’s growth. As the case study says, the service’s text user base grew from a meager 269 users in August 2009 to an impressive 20,505 users in January 2010. The company has also continued to see growth in the number of texts received from students interested in renting from Chegg.

“We not only want to help students save a ton of money by renting their textbooks, but we want to provide them with a variety of options to do
so. Working with Waterfall Mobile on this platform has given Chegg one more way to engage with students and provide them with the best service possible online and off,” said Tina Couch, VP of Public Relations for Chegg, in a news release.

The campaign has been such a success that Chegg plans to continue the service and plans to add a mobile aspect to other campaigns.

Be sure to check out Chegg’s official site and visit their mobile site as well.
