Jenna Talackova was born a male but identified herself as a female at age four. The Miss Universe Canada says that is not early enough, the “Miss” part needed to come much early, according to them. The pageant contestant underwent transgender surgery at the age of 19 but was kicked out of the Miss Universe Canada competition.

The organization released a statement, “Jenna Talackova from Vancouver, British Columbia, will not compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada competition because she did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form. We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best.”

Jenna Talackova was selected to be in the top 65 finalists in the 2012 competition. The Miss Universe Canada feeds into the Miss Universe pageant, all of which is owned by Donald Trump. In order to be eligible for Miss Universe, the contestant must be a female at birth and not have ever been married or pregnant.

The booted Jenna Talackova reported that she would wait to consult a lawyer before releasing a statement but commented later via twitter saying, “I’m disqualified, however I’m not giving up. I’m not going to just let them disqualify me over discrimination.”

She was asked in 2010 whether she considered herself a woman or transgender, the winking Jenna Talackova replied, “I regard myself as a woman- with a history.”

The folks at chang.org, who received over a million signatures in the recent Trayvon Martin case, have netted over 20,000 signatures in an effort to reverse the decision to boot Jenna Talackova from the Miss Universe Canada pageant.
