Likes: country music, big breakfast with my family, Kentucky Wildcat basketball, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Friends (both my own and the TV show), cowboy boots, the city of Chicago, my nephew Eli (aka my little stud), Gerard Butler (I’m sorry, but he’s perfect), anything my Tennessee Grandmother cooks – southern style Dislikes: trying to find an apartment in the city I can afford (shout-out to my new, awesome roomie), cats, horror movies, sweet potatoes (besides sweet potato fries - those are delicious) With my Kentucky and Missouri roots, I am currently growing in the best city in the world – Chicago (aside from the fact that it is home to the Chicago Cubs). I have met my best friends at DePaul University where we spend the majority of our time country music singing at Houndstooth Saloon or at the one and only Wellington’s Tavern. In high school, I was just about the worst writer in the class; which actually wasn’t that bad, because I went to school with a bunch of 36-ACT-scorers (my ACT score, however, was average for my state – and proud of it!). My writing career took off when I discovered that I basically wanted to be Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City. So, I found my voice, got down to business, and am on my way to being the next Andie Anderson from How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.

Matt Cain Pitches A Perfect Game

Matt Cain lived every pitcher’s dream Wednesday night. Pitching a perfect game in baseball is one of the most difficult things to do. However, this year’s major league pitchers are settling for nothing short of greatness as pitchers from the Seattle Mariners, the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Angels, and the Chicago White Sox have all pitched a no-hitter this season. San Francisco Giants Matt Cain was added to the list of great pitchers as he pitched arguably the greatest perfect game in baseball history.

“Things like this bring a team together even more,” said San Francisco Manager Bruce Bochy.  “That’s the first one I’ve seen. It was an incredible night. Matt was going about it like a normal game. That last at-bat he sprinted to first base and I yelled, ‘Hey, take it easy.’  But he always plays the game hard.”

Matt Cain pitched a 10-0 masterpiece against the Houston Astros with 125 pitches – most ever in a perfect game – in which 86 were strikes. Coupled with a pair of improbable catches by Melky Cabrera and Gregor Blanco, Matt Cain controlled most of the game’s outcome that was the first perfect game and the 14th no-hitter in the Giant history. Tying Los Angeles Dodgers Sandy Koufax’s perfect game against the Chicago Cubs in 1965, Matt Cain threw 14 strikeouts and allowed only seven balls out of the infield.

“I’m still pumped,” said Cain. “I haven’t really had a ton of time to sit down and look over stuff, see how it all happened. I don’t know that it has hit me yet, maybe when I can sit down and watch the highlights, go over the game.”

As of this season, the two-time All-Star is the highest paid right-hander with a $127.5 million, six-year contract. Matt Cain has been building up anticipation for his perfect game with a one-hitter against Pittsburgh in the home opener, a nine-inning shutout against the Phillies and an eleven-inning victory against the Giants.

“It’s something I always wanted to do since I was little, but it’s kind of a blur when it actually happens,” Cain said.

Deena Jersey Shore Arrested For Disorderly Conduct

Shocking — Deena Cortese, from the Jersey Shore was arrested by a Seaside Heights, New Jersey police officer for disorderly conduct.  A video posted by TMZ captured Deena intoxicated and dancing through the streets on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s nothing major, but we can’t put up with it,” said Police Chief Tommy Boyd.  “We don’t treat the cast differently than anyone else.”

At first, the police tolerated her behavior; however, after a few minutes of Jersey Shore star’s inappropriate behavior, Deena was cuffed and put in the back of a cop car.  Deena was seen intoxicated, dancing in the streets and slapping cars that drove by.

Detective Steve Korman went into more detail about Deena’s disorderly conduct charge when he stated, “Deena walked out of a bar by herself and started to dance in traffic.  An unidentified driver was attempting to drive around her and she wouldn’t let him pass.”

Deena was released a few hours later when her parents picked up their 25-year-old daughter from the Seaside Heights police station.

Deena’s incident Sunday afternoon was the end to an exciting weekend as the Jersey Shore boys were in a bar fight that left Jennifer Farley, also known as ‘JWoww,’ with a sprained ankle.

According to E! News, Seaside Heights Municipal Court stated that Deena is scheduled to appear in court on July 3.  However, the date is likely to change if Deena gets an attorney.

Robin Roberts Fights The Battle of MDS

Merely five years ago Robin Roberts beat the battle of breast cancer, but she is still not done fighting the war.  The Good Morning America host faces a difficult journey as she has been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS.  This rare blood and bone marrow disease was once called preleukemia.  Unfortunately, MDS is a complication from the treatment Roberts received to beat breast cancer in 2007.

Roberts alerted her Twitter followers of her announcement when she tweeted Monday morning, “My dear tweeps – will share something important with you this AM on GMA, something I have been dealing with for the past couple months.  Blessings.”  Roberts officially made the announcement of her MDS diagnosis at the end of Monday’s show with the company of her co-hosts, as well as her former co-host, Diane Sawyer.

“I’ve always been a fighter, and with all of your prayers and support, a winner,” said Roberts.  “My doctors tell me I’m going to beat this — and I know it’s true.”

Roberts began pre-treatment later that Monday, and she will have to undergo a bone marrow transplant.  In order to beat the MDS diagnosis, Roberts will be receiving a bone marrow transplant from her sister, whom her doctor says is a “perfect match.”

In a note to the ABC News staff, ABC News president Ben Sherwood commended Roberts.  “We love Robin, the heart and soul of ABC News, and we’ll stand arm in arm with her as she fights this new battle,” he wrote.  “She is the caption of our ‘GMA’ team; she has been the keystone of our recent victories; and she will lead the program for many years to come.”

Roberts has been living with this MDS diagnosis for awhile and plans to continue anchoring for Good Morning America.  However, she stated that she will be “out for a chunk of time” after she receives her bone marrow transplant.

“I love what I do and the people with whom I do it,” Roberts stated.  “Along with my faith, family and friends, all of you at ABC News give me the motivation and energy to face this challenge.”

Stony Brook shocks the world of baseball

The Stony Brook Seawolves have kicked the NY Yankees off the front of page of the sports section.  Sunday night, in a game 3 clincher in Baton Rouge, L.A., Stony Brook defeated six-time national champion LSU 7-2.  For the first time in school history, this Cinderella team has advanced to the College World Serious against UCLA in Omaha.

Stony Brook Seawolves center fielder and leading hitter, Travis Jankowski, stated, “Our motto is: ‘Shock the world and win the last game of the season.”

Although the title of College World Series Champions may stun the world, LSU is confident in the Seawolves.  “They outplayed us in every phase of the game,” LSU coach, Paul Mainieri, stated.  “The people in the South haven’t heard much about Stony Brook, but they know who they are now.”

With relentless hitting and great pitching, Stony Brook bounced back from a Game 1 loss against LSU.  Frankie Vanderka was a key player for Stony Brook on Sunday evening as he threw a complete-game three-hitter in the series clincher.  Likewise, Travis Jankowski had four hits and scored two runs.  Also for Stony Brook, Maxx Tissenbaum drove in three runs with a pair of doubles for the Seawolves.

LSU’s Raph Rhymes went 1-for-13 in the series after coming in hitting .452.  “They [Stony Brook] played phenomenal defense.  We hit balls hard, but they just found gloves tonight,” said Rhymes. “You have to give credit to Stony Brook, to their pitching and to their defense.”

Seawolves coach, Matt Senk, has come a long way since he was first hired at the once-Division 111 Stony Brook in 1991.  “I’m a little overwhelmed, quite frankly, because I think I do know that magnitude of this.  To make it to Omaha (is) every college baseball team’s dream, every college baseball coach’s dream and it’s come to fruition,” said Senk.  When describing how former LSU coach, Skip Bertman, winner of five national titles, congratulated him after the LSU game Sunday night, Senk stated, “Having that man congratulate me for going to the College World Series, it’s just unbelievable.”

The Stony Brook Seawolves are proud to be playing for Senk as he has devoted a two-plus-decade commitment to the program.  Senk oversaw Stony Brook’s transition from Division 3 to Division 2 in 1995, and then to Division 1 where he proudly coaches this year’s College World Series team.

“Any great team, there has to be a great coach and that’s where it always starts,’ Tissenbaum stated. “To be able to put this all together and crown it for coach and the entire staff, it’s phenomenal.”

Stony Brook has gained a great deal of respect in the world of college baseball over the past year, and they will be the first team from New York State to play in the College World Series since 1980.

While Stony Brook may have been overlooked in the past, the Seawolves are clearly making their mark in the world of baseball this year.  Professional baseball scouts have been keeping their tabs on this year’s Stony Brook team as seven Seawolves were selected in last week’s Major league Baseball draft.

Tragedy at Auburn University

The beginning of summer has resulted in a tragedy for Auburn University.  In an off-campus shooting, three people were killed and three others were hospitalized in Auburn, Ala.  The football team of Auburn University took a big hit from the shooting as two of the three killed were former players, and one of the three wounded is a current Auburn University offensive lineman.

“This is a sad, sad day for everyone associated with the entire Auburn family,” Tigers coach, Gene Chizik, said.  “I am devastated by the passing of three young men, including two that I personally knew in Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips, and my heart goes out to their families.”

Auburn University mourns the deaths of Ladarious Phillips of Roanoke, Ala, Ed Christian of Valdosta, Ga, and Demario Pitts of Opelika, Ala. as these young men’s lives were taken at the ages of 20 on June 9, 2012.  Last season, Phillips was a fullback for the Auburn University Tigers, and Christian supported on the sidelines due to a back injury.  At a pool party near Auburn University, Desmonte Leonard opened fire due to a fight between several men over a woman, authorities and witnesses stated.

Of the three wounded, Eric Mack, is a current player of the Auburn University Tigers and was taken to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds.  The junior offensive lineman is expected to make a full recovery by this coming up season.  The other two victims, Xavier Moss and John Robertson, were also both hospitalized; however, Moss was released.  Robertson was shot in the head and is in critical condition.

Investigators are still searching for the gunman, whom fled the scene in a vehicle with two other people.  Auburn Police Chief, Tommy Dawson, emphasized that the boys killed and injured were not connected to the shooter when he stated, “The only connection that the Auburn football team has to this is they’re the victims of a brutal shooting,” Dawson stated.  “Sometimes the young men get a bad rap, I feel like, but they are the victims today.”

Turquorius Vines stated that he was at the pool party with his friend, Pitts, that Saturday evening.  He and Pitts were approached by two other men whom began fighting with them over a woman.  Vines said that he punched one of the men, and Pitts hit both of them over the head with a bottle.  Neither of them had ever met the shooter.

When discussing the loss of his close friend, Vines said, “It’s like I lost a lung. I don’t know how I’m going to survive this.”

Auburn police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshal’s Service are out searching for Leonard, whom is wanted on three warrants for capital punishment.

Matthew McConaughey Ties The Knot

Sorry to break the news ladies, but Matthew McConaughey is officially off limits.  According to media reports, as of Saturday, June 9, McConaughey married Brazilian model, Camila Alves, in their home of Austin, TX.  Up until the wedding, the couple kept the ceremony’s details as secret as possible.

However, on the big day, Alves proudly claimed her love for Matthew McConaughey in front of an intimate group of family and friends by taking his last name. Reflecting the roots and personalities of the newlyweds, the ceremony held a theme of ‘island meets Texas’ that included Brazilian food.

Wearing a Dolce & Gobbana tuxedo, “Matthew looked so handsome, like an Old Hollywood movie star,” a guest stated.  Likewise, his stunning model/designer bride was dressed in a Brazilian designer’s custom made gown on her big day.  “Camila was just glowing and beautiful,” shared a guest.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves were the only two on the alter proclaiming their love, as it has been stated that the couple decided against having any groomsmen and/or bridesmaids.  However, standing in front of them were two preachers: a pastor of a local church and a monk.  The two switched off saying remarks throughout the ceremony.

The happy couple began dating in 2006 and were rumored to have been engaged last Christmas.  Mr. and Mrs. McConaughey have two children together, 3-year-old son, Levi, and 2-year-old daughter, Vida.

Matthew McConaughey recently finished up with the making of the highly anticipated stripper-chick flick, “Magic Mike.”  The film will be a sight for sore eyes as the Steven Soderberg directed drama stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer, alongside McConaughey.  As a result of McConaughey having to promote the upcoming film, the newlywed’s honeymoon will unfortunately be cut short.
