“What has your college education taught you?”
To appreciate a greater dependence on caffeine than my own body will allow. That’s the truest thing I’ve learned in my life as an undergrad writing major. If I were ever given an award and had to express thanks under a blinding heat lamp in front of millions, I wouldn’t think of God. At least not at first. No, my saving grace would have to be caffeine (Mom, you come in at a close second).

I’ve noticed that in my own meandering existence I’ve come to enjoy the things that probably won’t get me paid.

I like to read everything from Faulkner to Graphic Novels.

I’ve been playing guitar for the last eight years (the last five of which good). One of these days you might see me on the red line, or in the rafters at a Potbelly’s.

My guilty pleasures are B-rate horror movies, kung fu (preferably dubbed), baseball and all things music.

If I were to be any animal in a future life, I would be an owl. (A: because I already have a similar sleep schedule, and B: because owls aren’t easily domesticated.)

My favorite color is red.

Hulk Hogan's sex tape scandal

The Hulkster admits to sleeping with best friend’s wife

Hulk Hogan, the pro-wrestling legend and perhaps the poster child for all that was entertaining in the sport to his legion of “Hulkamaniacs,” spoke for the first time about his affair and alleged sex tape on NBC’s Today. The sex tape, which was released last week, occurred six years ago and featured Hulk Hogan doing the deed with the wife of his close friend Bubba the Love Sponge.

Hulk Hogan, 59, said that the affair happened before he was separated from his first wife Linda Hogan, with whom the Hulkster had two children–Brooke and Nick–and appeared alongside the Hogan family on the  VH1 reality show Hogan Knows Best. Citing his failing marriage as a key factor, Hogan claims that the verbal and emotional abuse he received from Linda fueled his adulterous decision to sleep with Heather Clem, the wife of radio host Bubba the Love Sponge.

Bubba, formerly Todd Clem, is a syndicated radio host who legally changed his name to the Love Sponge trademark in 1999. And he’s the Hulkster’s best friend.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Hulk Hogan spilled the beans about his affair with the Mrs. Clem and the alleged sex video. In the interview, Hulk said that Bubba allowed him to sleep with his wife six years ago. The only problem for Hogan was that he had no idea that he was being filmed.

“I had no idea there was a camera in the room,” Hogan said on Today. “I’m not making excuses–I’m accountable, I was the guy, I was there, I made the choice. It was at a really low point in my life when I was in a previous marriage when things were bottomed out completely. I made a wrong choice and now all of a sudden it surfaces over six years later and it’s just appalling.”

Hulk Hogan, who now serves as the general manager of Impact Wrestling, married his second wife, Jennifer McDaniel, in December 2010.

Amber Tamblyn's and David Cross' woodsy wedding

The location, food and celebrity guests made for a laid-back ceremony in the woods

Amber Tamblyn and David Cross married over the weekend in what was agreeably an unconventional wedding. The two were married outdoors, which Roots drummer and wedding DJ Questlove tweeted as “#weddinginthewoods.”

Tamblyn, arriving via a red canoe, sported a form-fitting yellow dress with sleeves, straying away from the typical matrimonial whiteness of conventional wedding gowns as she and her father, Ross Tamblyn, made their way down the dirt aisle barefoot.

Aside from the wooded location and barefoot hippiness, Tamblyn’s and Cross’ ceremony remained within orthodox wedding practice.

As for the reception, alternative rock band Yo La Tengo provided guests of Tamblyn’s and Cross’ with live music, as did Questlove on turntable duty.

Even the cake was not what one would find at a typical wedding ceremony. A three-tier cheesecake, which featured a pair of foxes clutching a heart with Tamblyn’ and Cross’ initials, served nuptials guests. Cross’ fox was even reported as wearing an Atlanta Braves hat.

Among the guests at the Tamblyn-Cross affair were Hollywood actors and actresses, funnymen and funnywomen who co-starred on projects with the bride and groom. Tamblyn’s Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-star and friend Blake Lively attended, alongside new hubby Ryan Reynolds. Other guests included Amy Poehler, America Ferrara, Jason Ritter and Alex Bledel of Gilmore Girls and Mad Men fame.

In 2008 Tamblyn, 29, began dating funny man David Cross, 48, and the two became engaged August 2011. This is the first marriage for both Tamblyn and Cross. The newlywed couple confirmed their marriage to PEOPLE magazine on Sunday, October 7, 2012.

Drake to collaborate with Aaliyah

The rapper will reveal some of the late R&B singer’s unreleased tracks

Lil Wayne has been rapping since he was only ten years old. Now, the 30-year-old says he finds it harder to come up with new things to say. Perhaps that’s why Weezy has been shying away from music lately to pursue his interest in skateboarding.

“I’ve said everything in every situation in every way,” Lil Wayne said. “It’s almost interesting to go into the studio and find new things to talk about and new ways to talk about them and hear it back and say, ‘Wow, you figured it out again.’”

That is why Lil Wayne is fully behind his protégé Drake’s vision of a posthumous collaboration with Aaliyah. Lil Wayne is confident that Drake’s vision will be an “awesome collaboration,” because according to him, Aaliyah’s music “is still awesome. It’s better than a lot of music out right now.”

Drake, who can attribute his music career’s stellar takeoff to mentor Lil Wayne, is reportedly a huge fan of Aaliyah. He has already released the song “Enough Said,” which features himself and the late Aaliyah, who was killed in a plane crash in 2001.

Lil Wayne added when he first heard of Drake’s newest project, his initial thoughts were: “Good move.” And he may be right about his protégé’s decision. So far, “Enough Said” has reached #55 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart.

Aaliyah, whose music career spawned hits such as “If Your Girl Only Knew,” “Are You That Somebody” and “Try Again,” has worked with several influential hip-hop artists in the past. Missy Elliott and Timbaland, who produced many of Aaliyah’s songs during her short-lived career, have yet to express their concern regarding Drake’s latest endeavor.

Jay-Z to release Live album/DVD

Live in Brooklyn will showcase Jay-Z’s Barclay’s Center concert series

Jay-Z has announced that he will release a new album following the close of his eight night concert performance at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. The album, Live in Brooklyn, will include both audio and visual material recorded during Jay-Z’s Saturday, October 6 concert at the Brooklyn venue.

Members close to Jay-Z’s camp have revealed that Live in Brooklyn will contain eight tracks and eight videos from the rapper’s eight night run at the Barclay’s Center.

16 years ago, Shawn Corey Carter tore the lid off of the hip-hop industry with the release of his debut album Reasonable Doubt (1996). Since then, the Brooklyn native has added more titles to his resume, making the former Marcy Project Houses resident one of the most financially successful rappers in America. Rapper and producer do not even begin to describe the magnitude of Jay-Z’s success.

The former CEO of Def Jam Recordings, one of three founders of Roc-A-Fella Records, founder of label Roc Nation, creator of Rocawear clothing and part-owner of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z’s estimated net worth exceeds $450 million as of 2011.

Even through everything, music hasn’t once seemed to have taken a backseat to the hip-hop mogul’s recent ventures. Jay-Z just happens to find himself on the other side of the fence, or the studio glass for that matter, running labels catering to younger, up and coming hip-hop artists like J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Bridget Kelly and even Willow Smith.

Being a business man hasn’t made Jay-Z a stranger to the mic, no. He still finds time to team up with close friend and fellow Roc-A-Fella artist Kanye West on tracks like Mercy (feat. Big Sean) and the album Watch the Throne, with its unforgettable banner anthem “N***** in Paris.”

Jay-Z’s influence on the hip-hop industry is unparalleled. He has been hailed as one of the greatest rappers of all time by various music publications such as Rolling Stone, Blender and even MTV, with fourteen Grammy Awards to show for it.

Live in Brooklyn looks to be the latest project for Jay-Z and is slated for an October 9 release exclusively on iTunes.

Batman arrested

Man dressed like the Dark Knight arrested for obstruction of justice

PETOSKEY, Mich. — A Batman impersonator was arrested by police after he refused to clear a crime scene. Mark Wayne Williams, 33, was arrested by state troopers and taken into custody wearing a Dark Knight costume after corrupting a police search for a missing driver.

The Dark Knight must have put on a few pounds at Wayne Manor, as the plump Williams tried to volunteer his help to the local authorities in their search.

The police search for a driver who fled an accident scene ended up in one arrest: Batman’s.

“He wouldn’t clear the scene, and we had a canine out there and he kept screwing up the scent,” State Police Sergeant Jeff Gorno told the Petoskey News-Review. “He said he wanted to help us look for the driver. We didn’t want the dog to track Batman instead of the accident scene, and he was getting in the way of officers who had a job to do.”

Oddly enough, this was not the first time the chubby Dark Knight had a run-in with the law.

Williams’ was arrested last year after police received a report of a man dressed as Batman on the roof of a local Petoskey business. Batman must have also had to budget Wayne Enterprises’ spending, seeing as Williams did not have any of the Dark Knight’s prized gizmos and gadgets on his person at the time of his arrest. Rather, the faux caped crusader carried with him a baton-like striking weapon, a can of pepper spray and a pair of sand-filled gloves.

Williams did not have any dangerous weapons on him the second time he was arrested. He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted resisting and obstructing a police officer. Williams was also sentenced to six months probation during which he was forbidden to wear costumes, including his Batman suit.

Stoned dogs can lead to dead dogs

Cases show that marijuana is toxic within a canine’s system

Don’t get your dog stoned.

In Colorado, where marijuana has become legal primarily for medicinal purposes, veterinarians have seen more than a handful of cases where canines have been exposed to marijuana, some even resulting in doggy deaths.

According to vets, marijuana is toxic in a dog’s system. The drug hinders canine’s fine motor control. The four-legged pets have a wide-based stance and are not sure on their feet after ingesting the substance.

Vets say that most of the cases they have seen are due to owners leaving medical marijuana edibles out in the open where their pets can easily ingest them. Marijuana edible cookies, brownies and other THC-laced foods have been the main culprits in getting dogs a trip to the veterinarian’s office.

“I just want dogs, kids to be safe. It needs to be treated like any other drug. If you came home with a prescription of Vicodin from your doctor you wouldn’t just leave it sitting there,” veterinarian Stacy Meola told local radio station WTSP, a CBS affiliate.

While some pet owners might think it is funny to get their dogs stoned, they are in for a rude awakening since elevated THC levels could prove fatal for some canines.

Dr. Meola has seen two deaths result from marijuana ingestion, and although not all dogs have the same fatal reaction to the drug, dogs might still be subjected to painful symptoms, including vomiting and even comas.

Manatee rider in hot water

A Floridian woman faces legal trouble after hitching a ride on a manatee

Manatee riding is strictly prohibited and punishable under state law. After just a routine day on the beach, this is the case against a woman who playfully hitched a ride on a sea cow in Fort DeSoto, Fl.

The manatee rider, Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez, 52, faces second-degree misdemeanor charges for her ignorance of the Florida manatee Sanctuary Act, which states:

“It is unlawful for any person at any time, by any means, or in any manner, intentionally or negligently to annoy, molest, harass, or disturb or attempt to molest, harass, or disturb any Manatee.”

Gutierrez was photographed riding the manatee Sunday afternoon near the Gulf Pier. What ensued was a police search for the 52-year-old.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri held a news conference to discuss Gutierrez’s manatee riding. Gualtieri called the manatee “a huge part of our culture here in Florida,” and “a very integral part of what Florida is about.”

“Go ride a jet ski. Don’t use animals,” Gualtieri continued. “She needs to be held accountable for her actions.”

According to Gutierrez, she knew nothing about the law because she was new to the area.

Gutierrez has not been charged for her manatee endeavor, but charges have been referred to the state attorney’s office. If Gutierrez is charged, she can receive a $500 fine or even a 60-day stint in jail.

All eyes on the Obama-Romney debate

The first presidential debate could make or break Romney’s campaing trail

The presidential debate between incumbent president Barrack Obama and candidate Mitt Romney is set to kick off Wednesday at the University of Denver. The Obama-Romney debate will be the first time the two politicians square off on issues vital to the presidency. Though debates as these prove helpful for voters watching at home to gain a better understanding of their respected candidates, the Obama-Romney debate will more likely reinforce voter opinions rather than sway them.

The debate Wednesday night will be a tug of war between President Obama and Republican Mitt Romney as both will try to reinforce voter opinions of why they like them as candidates.

“Obama needs to play defense without looking defensive,” said Dan Schnur, director of the Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics at the University of Southern California and former advisor to U.S. Senator John McCain during his 2000 presidential run.

Obama needs to remind people why they like him, without placing blame on the U.S. Congress for broken campaign vows.

For Romney, this first debate is his best chance to try to turn his muddled campaign around after failing to gain traction from the GOP convention. Marked by campaign blunders and contradictory messages, Romney’s campaign is in dire need of a jumpstart. The Republican candidate faces a narrow road to the presidency as key swing states Florida and Ohio could decide the election come November.

Romney’s economic message could be his major setback in the race, as those in the middle class simply do not see a commonality between themselves and the former head of Bain Capital. Recent polls have shown that Romney has lost his edge on voters who trust to handle the economy. Right now, voters’ perception of Romney is at a low, but Wednesday night could help the Republican candidate persuade those who are still on the fence.

Obama’s advisers, however, have been downplaying the Obama-Romney debate, citing the president’s busy schedule has left no time for debate practice.

With estimates of over 50 million viewers watching the Obama-Romney debate Wednesday night, there is no question that this first footfall is pivotal on the road to the presidency.
