Grizzly Discovery on Facebook

Good ol’ Facebook. Besides its use for networking and keeping in touch with friends and loved ones, many have used the social networking site over the past years to vent about their relationships, share their problems in life or post photos about their picture perfect life. Despite its ups and downs, it may seem like common sense for Facebook users to know when to draw the line about what they post. Or is it?
Derek Medina, a 31-year-old South Miami man, posted a picture on Thursday morning of his dead wife’s body. He posted the picture confessing that he shot his wife to death and later turned himself to authorities. The picture was posted with the caption:

“I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news. my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope you understand me.”

Medina said that his wife, 26-year-old Jennifer Alfonso, consistently abused him over the years of their marriage, repeatedly punching him and on that day he snapped and couldn’t take it anymore. Their 10-year-old daughter was at the house at the time of the shooting but was unharmed. According to the police affidavit, Media pointed gun at Alfonso in their bedroom during a heated argument. She left the room and returned, announcing she was leaving him. He followed her downstairs to the kitchen where she began punching him multiple times. He pointed the gun at her again and this time she pulled out a knife. Medina was able to wrestle it out of her hands and when he did, she punched him some more. It was at this point that Medina shot Alfonso several times, the affidavit says.

After the killing, Medina posted the picture of his dead wife’s bloody body, which was wearing a black leotard and slumped on the floor. The post was titled “RIP Jennifer Alfonso.” Medina did not call 911, but rather changed his clothes and went to visit some family members. He then went to the police station where he began confessing the murder he committed. The gruesome photo went viral and after about five hours, Facebook employees were notified and removed the photo and disabled Medina’s account, along with Alfonso’s.

New Juror speaks out on Zimmerman verdict

Another juror in the George Zimmerman murder trial has spoken out about her thoughts on the case and whether or not she agreed with the verdict.

Formerly known as juror B-29, the woman gave only her first name, Maddy. Maddy is Puerto Rican and was the only minority on the six-women jury. She is originally from Chicago, has eight children and is a nursing assistant. She sat down for an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, and shared her thoughts and feelings of the trial.
She said she felt Zimmerman got away with murder and feels she owes Trayvon Martin’s parents an apology. She originally wanted to convict Zimmerman of second-degree murder but she had to put her emotions aside and look at the evidence. According to Florida state law that she and the other jurors had to follow, there wasn’t enough proof to convict Zimmerman of second degree murder or manslaughter.

“You can’t put the man in jail even though in our hearts we felt he was guilty,” Maddy said during the interview. “But we had to put our hearts aside and look at the evidence.”

Despite race being the central issue in the case, Maddy said she never felt Zimmerman racially profiled Martin. She also said that she feels the whole case going to trial is a publicity stunt. Regardless of her views, she stands firmly behind what she believes happened on that night.

“George Zimmerman got away with murder, but you can’t get away from God. At the end of the day, he’s going to have a lot of questions and answers he has to deal with,” Maddy said. But the law couldn’t prove it.”

Maddy feels sorry for Martin’s parents and feels like she owes them an apology because she “let them down.”
“It’s hard for me to sleep, it’s hard for me to eat because I feel I as forcefully included in Trayvon Martin’s death. And as I carry him on my back, I’m hurting as much as Trayvon’s Martin’s mother because there’s no way that any mother should feel that pain,” she said.

Maddy is the second juror to appear in an interview after the acquittal of George Zimmerman on July 13th. Juror B-37 was the first and she made an appearance on Anderson Cooper last week, but she hid her face and body. She said that she believed Zimmerman’s self-defense claim and his killing of Martin was “justified.” She also said Martin was responsible for his own death. Since then, four other jurors distanced themselves from her statements and said it didn’t reflect their own.

Weiner Trouble

Disgraced politician Anthony Weiner found himself in hot water again this week for another sexting scandal. Weiner resigned from his position as New York’s Congress in 2011 after admitting he exchanged racy photos of himself with other women via phone and Internet. He apologized publicly to his wife and family and mentioned how much he regrets the actions he made.

He must’ve not been sorry enough because on Tuesday a gossip website released sexually charged conversations that Weiner had with another woman, as well as nude photos. Weiner held a press conference earlier this week and admitted that he indeed was the one involved in the conversations and pictures. His wife, Huma Abedin, stood next to him during the conference. Abedin faced a lot of criticism by the public for standing by her man despite all the online relationships he’s had with other women. Some have asked her why she puts up with him, and others say she should just leave him because he doesn’t care about their marriage or baby boy.

The woman at the center of the newest scandal is 23-year-old Sydney Leathers. The Indiana native said she loves politics and supported Weiner even after the behavior that led his resignation two years ago. Leathers said their online relationship began after his previous scandal and lasted about eight to nine months or possibly even a year.

Their main form of contact was Facebook, Twitter, email and other social media sites. They exchanged nude photos of each other, texted, emailed and had phone sex. Leathers said they spoke all the time, and they had a conversation about Weiner buying her a condo in Chicago so they could meet up. She said she fell in love with him, but once she realized who he really was, she became disgusted.

Leathers recently told Inside Edition’s Jim Moret that she would like to apologize to Weiner’s wife. She feels sorry for her part and the pain she caused. Weiner announced in May that he would be running for New York Mayor. In light of his newest scandal, his poll has drastically dropped.

Comic-Con becomes scene of suicide attempt

Three stuntmen put their skills to use to save girl’s life

Three stuntmen working at Comic-Con became real-life heroes over the weekend when they rescued a woman from committing suicide. As thousands of fans milled around at Comic-Con in San Diego, three professional stuntmen were setting up for an outdoor “Kick-Ass 2” promotional event when people noticed a woman standing on the ledge of a balcony at an apartment building across the street.

At first, many onlookers assumed that the woman was part of the “Kick-Ass 2” promo, but soon realized the horrific situation was real and that the woman intended to jump.  The unnamed woman, who was drunk and upset over a recent breakup, climbed over the railing of her 14-story apartment balcony while horrified onlookers called out from below, trying to convince her not to kill herself.  The three stuntmen knew that police and firefighters would not be able to respond quickly enough and they sprung into action to save the day.

Receiving permission to enter the building, the stuntmen found the woman’s apartment unit unlocked and snuck in so as not to startle her while she precariously hung out over the Comic-Con crowd with one hand and one foot off the ledge.

Stuntman Amos Carver told reporters, “We’re trained to deal with these situations should they arise, but usually if we do, and it’s not an innocent civilian. If we’re saving somebody, it’s a situation we constructed in such a way that they’re out on the edge of life or death intentionally to get a certain shot and we swoop in. But those are people that are expecting this.”

Another stuntman, Gregg Sargeant noted, “She was ready to go.” As the stuntmen made it out onto the balcony, Sargeant wrapped his arms around her as the other two stuntmen secured her in a harness. As the girl was pulled to safety, she burst into tears and apologized profusely. The police and firefighters arrived moments later and thanked the three stuntmen, whom they dubbed “heroes.”

As for the three stuntmen, they were just happy to help. “I was just so thankful we got there when we got there. I think if we’d been there two seconds later, she would’ve been gone,” Sargeant said.

From Terrorist to Rockstar

“Rolling Stone” caused a national uproar this week when Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was on the front cover. “Rolling Stones” usually has rock stars or other well known musician’s on their cover, but this time they opted for something else. Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan are suspected to be the masterminds of the bombings that occurred at marathon on April 15.

The cover featured a selfie of Tsarnaev looking calm, collected and even attractive. The caption reads “The Bomber – How a Popular, Promising Student Was Failed by His Family, Fell Into Radical Islam, and Became a Monster.”
“Rolling Stone” faced criticism for glorifying the terrorist instead of the victims that were killed and the ones injured. The magazine issued a statement that explained why they chose Tsarnaev as the front cover. They said Tsarnaev is in the same age group as many of the readers, and it’s important for them to examine the complexities of the issue and understand how a tragedy like that happens.

Drugstores like CVS and Walgreen’s have said they will not be selling the issue in their stores once it’s released. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino disapproved the cover and said Tsarnaev is a terrorist who isn’t wanted in any neighborhoods, magazines or anywhere else.

To understand the capacity of how offensive the cover is, a Twitter user replaced Tsarnaev’s photo with Mohammad Atta, who is one of the Sept 11 plane hijackers. The caption was labeled as “The Hijacker.”

Just following the “Rolling Stone” cover, there have been newly released photographs of Tsarnaev the night he was arrested. The images show a very battered and bloodied Tsarnaev. The laser glow from the policemen’s snipers can be seen on his forehead and other pictures show Tsarnaev slumped over the boat he was hiding in. The released images are a large contrast from the handsome, confident looking young man on the cover that caused such a backlash.

The Bitch Face: A worldwide epidemic

Celebrities have long been known for their Bitch Faces, but a new PSA lets women know just how widespread the issue goes

Everyone knows you look prettier when you smile—your face lights up, your eyes twinkle and you emit some of that inner sparkle you possess. However, you also look like a whack job (the kind of person that people try to avoid eye contact with lest you decide in your insane fervor that you’re their new BFF) if you walk around like that all day.

Enter the Bitch Face. You’ve all seen the Bitch Face. That girl (or guy—I’m looking at you, Kanye West) that looks sullen and morose and unapproachable. Hell, you wouldn’t even try. At the very least, it appears that you’d receive a verbal lashing, or even a mean right hook. Now, here’s the problem: Is the Bitch Face intentional or not? Victoria Beckham has cultivated a career out of her Bitch Face. In fact, up until last weekend (when her husband, David Beckham, shattered the illusion by posting a picture of her smiling) I don’t believe there had been any photographic proof that the woman could move her facial muscles.

Kristen Stewart is another one known for her Bitch Face. Regardless of where she is, she constantly looks like she’s in a state of fury (to be fair though, Kristen Stewart is often too stoned to be aware of what’s happening around her, let alone worry about her appearance). Naomi Campbell is another celebrity notorious for her Bitch Face (the only time she smiles is when she beats helpless employees with a Blackberry or when militant dictators are presenting her with blood diamonds).

Even more worrisome, it seems that a vast majority of women (celebrity or not) suffer from Bitch Face. Most don’t even realize it until someone approaches them and asks why they’re so upset. Internally, there is nothing wrong. They’re waltzing along and enjoying the day, but their Bitch Face tells a different story.  According to a PSA posted by Taylor Orci on Funny or Die, Bitch Face is completely unintentional and everyone should accept and embrace the Bitch Face.

Whether intentional or not, the Bitch Face is here to stay. If you suffer from Bitch Face, check out the PSA below to learn how to cope.

Being too fat now a disease

Obesity has officially been labeled as a disease. This means that more than 35% of Americans can define their excess body fat as: a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness or sickness. That is the definition of a disease according to dictionary.com.

The American Medical Association voted recently to call obesity a disease, in hopes that it will help patients get better treatment and lessen the stigma associated with it.
“Recognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue that affects approximately 1 in 3 Americans,” said Dr. Patrice Harris, an AMA board member.
Obesity affects more than 35 percent of American adults and more than 17% of children in the United States. The South still has the highest amount of obese individuals and Mississippi has taken the title for being the “fattest state” three years in a row. Adults there have a 34.9 percent obesity rate.

With obesity now considered a disease, doctors will be forced to further look into it and possible underlying problems, instead of just glancing at it as a condition that the patient brought upon themselves.
Although obesity is a rapidly increasing epidemic in the United States, it shouldn’t be considered a disease. What you put into your mouth and how much physical activity you engage in is up to you and your responsibility. Yes, there may be some underlying issues as to what makes a person consume large amounts of calories and gain excess weight, but nowhere does obesity fall into the definition of a disease.

Heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of caner are all diseases that can arise in being obese. Obesity should not be seen as a disease, let alone one that leads to other ones.

Miley Cyrus Just Can't Stop

Miley Cyrus, well-known twerker and Disney Channel star gone bad, has been spotted with her fiancé Liam Hemsworth in Hollywood for the first time in 5 months. There has been speculation that the two split after Cyrus has been seen without wearing her engagement ring while Hemsworth was in Australia filming the Hunger Games. Cyrus went on Twitter to deny the rumors and confirm that the wedding has not been called off.

Cyrus has been getting a lot of media attention lately, specifically for her party animal image and I don’t give a f**k attitude. The former Disney Channel Star has ditched her sweet and innocent Hannah Montana character and has shown the world she is a grown woman who doesn’t care what the media thinks of her.

Earlier this week, Cyrus released her new music video titled We Can’t Stop. The video quickly started trending and had 14 million hits within two days. People have been wondering lately what has happened to the former innocent Disney Channel Star because in the video Miley seems to have….well lost it.

In her video, Cyrus can be seen twerking multiple times and in all types of angles, dancing with teddy bears, making out with a doll in a pool, dirty dancing in a bathtub and wearing scantily clad, tight clothing. Although parents and others want her to stay a good girl and positive role model to their children, Cyrus has hinted a few times in the past that she likes to have fun and do whatever she wants.

The first time Cyrus really raised eyebrows is when she posed topless at a photo-shoot when she was 15. Although she had a blanket covering her front end, it still sparked controversy that it was an inappropriate thing for a teenager to do. She later created more fury with parents when she “pole danced” at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in 2009. Even though all she really did was shimmy down while holding onto a pole on top of an ice cream truck, she was criticized for her behavior at a show for kids. Then in 2010, she was captured on video smoking salvia in a bong. At that point, it was concluded that we have lost our sweet Cyrus forever.

Although Cyrus is a party girl and enjoys twerking, she isn’t harming anyone. She’s living her own life and it’s about time everyone else did the same. She didn’t get pregnant as a teenager, she isn’t addicted to drugs or alcohol and she hasn’t been arrested or charged with anything, so as of now she’s in the clear. Compared to Lindsey Lohan, she pretty much is an angel.

Robin Thicke stands by song amid controversy

Critics and fans deem new single an ode to date rape

Robin Thicke, who has achieved massive success as a singer and a songwriter, had his song “Blurred Lines” reach the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, but despite this being his first time reaching the coveted position, his celebration was short-lived. Robin Thicke’s new single and video have drawn ire from critics and fans alike, most notably being described as “rapey.”

Given the current spotlight on rape culture, the song’s lyrics immediately caused controversy, as Robin Thicke spends the vast majority of the tune repeating the phrase, “I know you want it girl.”  Robin Thicke choosing to title the song “Blurred Lines” didn’t help matters either. Then, to top it off, Robin Thicke released the music video, which featured fully-clothed Robin Thicke and T.I. as topless women pranced about in nude-colored underwear with a sheep.

Robin Thicke posted the video to his Facebook page and immediately received waves of negative comments. Even Youtube banned the unedited video, deeming it too racy and offensive to viewers. Other viewers praised the video, citing that the models looked like they were having fun.

Here’s the problem with the outcry: Robin Thicke has always been known for his super-sexual songs, so this one should come as no surprise to fans or critics. The women in the video are adults who willingly accepted a job. The music video itself looks like an American Apparel advertisement come to life and the public sees more nudity on a daily basis from Rihanna’s Twitter feed. The creepiest part of the video is that half-nude people are surrounded by farm animals.

Also, no normal person is going to hear the song or watch the video and think, “Oh, I think I’ll sexually assault someone today.” That doesn’t happen. Bad people do bad things and normal non-deviants don’t. A catchy R&B tune isn’t going to send them spiraling down some twisted path. Everyone should take the song and video for what they are: entertainment. If it isn’t your thing, don’t watch or listen.

As for Robin Thicke, he stands by the production and noted that the song and video are meant to be fun, saying, “To actually finally have everybody paying attention this time is very exciting.”

Kim Kardashian gives birth five weeks early

Kanye West cancels album party to be by her side

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed their first child at Hollywood’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Saturday. The baby girl, whose name has not been released, arrived five weeks early, much to the delight of West, Kim Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian clan.

Kim Kardashian, who has long been a media fixture, shockingly did not have the camera crew for “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” in the delivery room (probably at the request of Kanye West) as her sister Kourtney did for both of her children, but even more surprising is that the Kardashian family didn’t release any sort of statement for over 24 hours. The family broke their silence on Sunday when they tweeted congratulations to the happy couple.

Another happy occurrence is that Kanye West was actually in the delivery room when Kim Kardashian gave birth. It had long been reported that there was trouble in paradise between the superstar couple, with some reports claiming that Kanye had no intention of being in the delivery room when the time came. Late Friday night, Kanye West skipped out of his new album’s listening party after learning that Kim Kardashian was not feeling well and rushed to be by her side.

Kim Kardashian has had a rough pregnancy, with multiple medical scares and vicious gossip and threats from the tabloids. Luckily, Kanye West happened to be in Los Angeles, instead of Paris where he had been living for most of Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy. Kim Kardashian went into labor a few hours later and checked into a private birthing-suite. A hospital staff member tipped off the media that Kim Kardashian had checked into the hospital and again released information that the star had given birth. Even though baby Kimye was over a month early, she and Kim Kardashian are both doing well.

There has been no word as to when or where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s baby will make its debut.
