Alicia Silverstone posted a new video of her son Bear Blu last week, but it isn’t the typical gushing proud-parent video.
Alicia Silverstone posted a video on March 20 that shows her chewing food and passing it directly from her mouth to that of her 11-month-old son’s.
Alicia Silverstone posted the video on her Web site The Kind Life, which is a take on her vegan cookbook The Kind Diet.
“I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mocha with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon,” Alicia Silverstone posted on her site, “I fed Bear the mocha and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup… from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite… and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or two ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!”
Alicia Silverstone takes a spoonful of food in the video, chews it and passes it from her mouth to her son’s. He even looks like a little bird with his arms and hands moving excitedly as he takes the food from his mom.
Now Alicia Silverstone fans and the media are weighing in on this bird-like practice.
“It doesn’t seem like a hygienic practice,” one doctor commented, but many fans commented on the video begging to learn more about the practice. It seems fairly straight forward, though. Insert food into mouth, chew, dispense to child’s mouth.
Other experts have said it’s a fairly common practice, but one nutrition specialist suggested a food processor and spoon as the safer bet.
